The Factory Theater's latest production, The League of Awesome, is an original work written by Factory ensemble members Corri Feuerstein and Sara Sevigny. Prepare for 90 minutes of nonstop action as the cast perform a piece that's two parts comic book story, one part farce, and completely entertaining. Show starts at 8pm, tickets are $15-$20 with group discounts available. Show runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 7pm through August 21. The Factory Theater is located at 3502 N. Elston. For more info call 312-409-3247 or visit The Factory Theater.

Bitchpork Fest @ Mortville

This underground alternative to Pitchfork Fest is guaranteed to be entertaining. There are a TON of bands playing Friday through Sunday (mostly local!) so click here for the details. Bitchpork will be at Mortville in Little Villiage (2106 S. Kedzie) this year. The first band goes on at 5pm all three days and God knows how late it'll go.

Pitchfork Music Festival @ Union Park

The Pitchfork Music Festival once again brings booming sound to Chicago on a steamy 3-day weekend of fun. Gates open at noon today and music runs till 10pm. Also on site are food and beverage vendors, Flatstock poster show, Coterie craft fair, CHIRP record fair (look for our Gapers Block table!), record labels, non-profits, Rock for Kids auction items and much more. Keep an eye on Transmission for more previews and day-of-show recaps as the festival goes on.

Found Footage Festival

The Found Footage Festival comes to the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., tonight at 7pm. The festival showcases a mish-mash of film and video clips, and this time around features the terrible mid-'80s film Computer Beach Party. Tickets are $10; more details here. 21+

John Dillinger Movies for a Quarter @ Portage Theater

The double feature includes Manhattan Melodrama (1934), the last film Dillinger saw before getting "plugged" by the FBI, and Public Enemies (2009), with scenes filmed at the Portage in 2008. The shows begin at 3 p.m. at Portage Theater, 4050 N Milwaukee Ave. Seats cost 25 cents, more information here.

Free Gelato* @ Go Roma

I didn't know that in 1984 President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream month, nor did I know that the third Sunday of July is designated as National Ice Cream day. But the clever folks at Go Roma do, and on Sunday July 18th the Go Roma at 848 N. State Street is offering a complimentary scoop of their gelato to patrons who purchase an entree. So if you're downtown on the 18th of July and have a hankering for Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Burnt Carmel, Cappuccino or Lemon Sorbet flavors of gelato, you now know where to go for a free scoop!
