Facets Night School: Rubin and Ed

Facets Cinematheque presents Facets Night School, a weekly series of midnight screenings paired up with lectures, discussions, and much more. Tonight's screening: the astounding 1991 film Rubin and Ed, featuring the always cryptic Crispin Glover and Howard Hesseman, for some reason. Tales of Terror Triple Feature @ The Portage Theater

Tonight at the Portage Theater (4050 N. Milwaukee) $10 will get you into a back-to-back-to-back screening of horror films. Starting the lineup at 8pm is Creepshow, followed by Book of Blood at 10pm, capped off with a midnight screening of Tales from the Darkside, The Movie. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. The Mighty Boosh On Tour Documentary @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents the Chicago premiere of Journey of the Childmen: The Mighty Boosh On Tour, a documentary of the British comedy duo Julian Barratt & Noel Fielding on tour in the UK. All About Evil @ Music Box

All About Evil: The Peaches Christ Experience in 4-D screens at the Music Box, 3733 N. Southport, tonight at 11:30pm. The "4-D" part refers to the presence of Peaches Christ herself, along with costar and frequent John Waters collaborator Mink Stole, as well as the expectation that you come dressed in your finest zombie/gore getup. Tarantino Double Feature @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center continues its Quentin Tarantino retrospective with Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers (scripted by Tarantino) at 3pm, and Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver (one of Tarantino's favorite films) at 5:15pm. The Orbit Room's Third Anniversary Tiki Party

Avondale's Orbit Room is celebrating their third anniversary today with a tiki party on their enormous tiki patio tonight, featuring complimentary steak and chicken tacos, $2 PBR drafts, $2 lowrider (teq & rRse's) shots, and $4 Jameson. Local rockabilly band Hillbilly Idle will perform as well. This event is from 6pm to 3am at The Orbit Room (2959 N. California.)

Air & Water Show @ North Avenue Beach

Planes, boats, people, heat, sun, and sand. I hate all of these things when they're together, but I know you'll love the Chicago Air and Water show, which takes place today and tomorrow near North Avenue Beach, 11am-4pm. Free.

Chicago Antiquarian Book Fair @ Plumbers Union Hall

Hunt for what's missing from your collection or bring your own first edition family heirlooms to the Chicago Antiquarian Book Fair. Over 40 dealers from the United States, Canada and the UK will be displaying portions of their stock and many will be delighted to answer questions and make arrangements to appraise or even purchase collections of books (especially if signed!). Prices seldom fall under $20, but there will be a few bargain book tables as well as author readings and glimpses of rare books seldom seen outside academic libraries. Sponsored by the Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association. Plumbers Union Hall, 1340 W. Washington, August 13 from 3-8pm and August 14 from 10am-4pm. Admission is $6.

Breakfast at Tiffany's @ Music Box Theatre

As a part of the Music Box's Audrey Hepburn month, the theater is screening a weekend matinee of Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). The film is a Hepburn classic, following the love story of a New York socialite and a young writer. Screening starts at 11:30am. Feeble Intimacy @ LVL3

Sean Flannery Headlines Comedy At The Mette

Sean Flannery -- voted Best Standup Comedian by readers of The Reader -- headlines Comedy At The Mette tonight, hosted by Dan Polydoris and featuring C.J. Sullivan. The show's equal parts taste-test and warm-up for the debut of his one-man show, "Never Been to Paris," and is a collaboration between The Wilmette Theater and Chicago Underground Comedy. Doors open at 9:30 pm, and $12 tickets are available here. The theater sells beer and wine, so it's a 21+ show.

Old Town School Summer Sale

The OId Town School of Folk Music holds its annual store-wide sale today and tomorrow at the Different Strummer (4544 N. Lincoln Avenue). Everything in the store -- CDs, instruments new and used, books, tuners, strings, accessories, etc., etc. -- is on sale today. Hours for the sale are 9:30am to 4:30pm on both days.

Two Hour Comedy Hour @ Gallery Cabaret

Clark Jones and Will Miles--the guys who bring you Two Black Dudes And An Open Microphone--will host this week's Two-Hour Comedy Hour. The lineup includes Drew Michael, John Markham, Trey Mowder, Tony Blanco and Derek Lazarski. This free show features a fresh mix of comedians each week. There's no cover for the 21+ show -though a $5 donation is accepted - and it runs from 7-9 pm at Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley (near Western and Milwaukee, just off the Blue Line stop). Guests are encouraged to arrive early.
