Ernest Dawkins @ Hyde Park Jazz Society, ROOM 43

Legendary saxophonist Ernest Dawkins heads up the Hyde Park Jazz Society's weekly ROOM 43 outing. Come down to one of the best rooms in the city for one a taste of a both a bygone era and a vibrant look at city's current jazz scene. 7:30pm. ROOM 43- 1043 E. 43rd Street.

Deke Dickerson, The Modern Sounds @ Schubas

Deke Dickerson, often hailed as a master of guitar and Americana rock, hits Schubas tonight along with The Modern Sounds and his backing band The Ecco-Fonics. Whether you label him as rockabilly, surf guitar, roots rock or all of the above, he's a master entertainer. Tickets $10 ($12 door). 21+ Doors open at 8pm. Schubas is located at 3159 N. People's Radio Workshop @ Mess Hall

Messhaller Allan and other members of the Radios Populares Collective will lead a two-part workshop on building a low-power FM radio station from the ground up! Join them in building THE PEOPLE'S RADIO at Mess Hall, broadcasting during the Glenwood Ave Arts Fest (Aug 20-22). This event is today from 10am to 2pm at Mess Hall (6932 N Glenwood).

Women's Empowerment Screenings @ Cultural Center

This afternoon, the Chicago Cultural Center will host two screenings centered on modern-day issues and examples of women's empowerment: Made in L.A. and Taking the Heat. Both will be followed by panel discussions. Made in L.A., which explores the lives of three Latina garment workers, will be shown at noon. Taking the Heat, the story of women firefighters in America and the struggle they face, will play at 2:30pm.

Come feel the lady love and learn more about how you can help. Admission is free. The Chicago Cultural Center is located at 78 E Washington.

Breakfast at Tiffany's @ Music Box Theatre

As a part of the Music Box's Audrey Hepburn month, the theater is screening a weekend matinee of Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). The film is a Hepburn classic, following the love story of a New York socialite and a young writer. Screening starts at 11:30. Tickets are $9.25 and can be purchased through the Music Box box office or through their website.

Spiaggia Farm Luncheon

It may cost as much as your total food budget for a few weeks ($150 per person), but it sounds delish: Spiaggia is organizing a day-long field trip to Nichols Farm in Marengo for a luncheon cooked by their chefs, using Nichols' ingredients. Tours, games, and a Top Chef-style "Quickfire Challenge" for guests are on the menu. Bus leaves Spiaggia (980 N Michigan) at 11am and returns at 7pm; RSVP required.
