Neon Marshmallow Fest day 3 @ Viaduct Theater

Day three of the four-day noise/experimental Neon Marshmallow Festival begins tonight at the Viaduct Theater (3111 N. Western Ave.). Today is actually two shows in one: the first performance begins at noon and lasts until 6:00 p.m., while the second starts at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are sold separately for both, and are considered two separate events. Saturday afternoon's acts include Burning Star Core, U.S. Girls, Regression (featuring Nate Young of Wolf Eyes), and collaborations between Astral Social Club & Carlos Giffoni, Cornucopia & Telecult Powers, nmperign & Jason Lescalleet, and more. Taste of the Neighborhoods Tour

The City hosts a tour today of the eats representing selected neighborhoods around Chicago--Greek on Halsted, Italian on Taylor, South side BBQ, Middle Eastern in Albany Park--and you can join them! The Taste of the Neighborhoods tour series meets monthly; destinations are announced a few weeks before the tour, so contact the City to find out what's on the menu for today.

Superstars of Burlesque @ The Music Box Theatre

Chicago's favorite sweetheart Michelle L'amour's Superstars of Burlesque continues this Saturday night, August 21st, at The Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport). The show features an all-star lineup with every act carrying a winning title including the Chicago Starlets (2010 World's Best Burlesque Group), Hot Toddy (2009 King of Boylesque), and Michelle L'amour herself, Queen of Burlesque 2005. Socio-Analytical Perspectives on Gender Culture Through Dance @ Links Hall

Newly-formed dance company Under Construction Dance Project premieres Socio-Analytical Perspectives on Gender Culture Through Dance at Links Hall, 3435 N. Sheffield Ave. The performance, a collaborative cultural examination of sex and gender roles in society, begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for students and seniors. Daredevils' Hamlet opening @ Neo-Futurarium

The Neo-Futurists kick off their 2010-11 series with Daredevils' Hamlet, a combination of the Shakespeare play and the Neos' 2005 show Daredevils, which featured a cast going through a series of physical and emotional stunts & challenges. Daredevils' Hamlet opens tonight at the Neo-Futurarium, and runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through September 25. Shows are at 8pm on all nights. Two-Hour Comedy Hour @ Gallery Cabaret

Comedian Bill Cruz hosts this week's Two-Hour Comedy Hour. The weekly standup comedy showcase also features standup comedians Danny Kallas, Trey Mowder, Mike Glazer and two surprise comedians. This free show features a different lineup each week. There's no cover for the 21+ show -though a $5 donation is accepted - and it runs from 7-9 pm at Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley (near Western and Milwaukee, just off the Blue Line stop). Guests are encouraged to arrive early.

Encyclopedia Show @ Vittum Theatre

Chicago Slam Works brings you the best of The Encyclopedia Show, a regular series of artists and writers presenting a verbal encyclopedia entry. Today's show features a dozen faces from the past season of the show, including Rachel Claff, Joel Chmara, Amy Johnson, Mike Argol, Diana Slickman, and many more. Grigsby Award for Excellence in the Art of Solo Performance @ Theater Wit

Head on out to the near west suburbs tonight for the Tamale Hut Reading Series. Columbia MFA candidate Jenny Seay hosts this always welcoming, roughly monthly event. This Saturday's featured reader is Andrew Reilly, an ensemble member of 2nd Story. Visitors encouraged to get scribblin' and participate in the open mic. Sappho's Salon @ Women and Children First

Tonight Women and Children First hosts Sappho's Salon: A Provocative Night of Lesbian Diversions. This month's installement features humorist Fay Jacobs, author of As I Lay Frying and Fried and True: Tales from Rehoboth Beach, collections of newspaper columns chronicling life in the gay-friendly resort town of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Singer Ellen Rosner brings the voice Windy City Times describes as "a young Chrissie Hynde, Chris Isaak or Melissa Etheridge." DJ SpinNikki plays eclectic music between sets to keep things rollin'. Grant Park Orchestra Presents Mahler: Symphony No. 2 @ Millennium Park

Tonight the Grant Park Music Festival presents Mahler: Symphony No. 2. This masterpiece is among music's most monumental experiences. This season-ending program is also a special celebration of Principal Conductor Carlos Kalmar's 10th Anniversary with the Grant Park Music Festival. 7:30pm. Pritzker Pavilion. Free.

Screaming Females @ Schubas

Screaming Females from New Brunswick, NJ were touring and touring last year to support their third, critically acclaimed album,Power Move (Don Giovanni Records). "Dance for Life" 2010 @ Harris Theater

Each year, Dance for Life raises money for HIV/AIDS prevention and care programs. This year's benefit will feature dancers from Ensemble EspaƱol Spanish Dance Theatre, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The Joffrey Ballet, River North Chicago Dance Company, and Thodos Dance Chicago.Dance for Life takes place at 7:30 pm at Harris Theater, 205 E.
