Socio-Analytical Perspectives on Gender Culture Through Dance @ Links Hall

Newly-formed dance company Under Construction Dance Project premieres Socio-Analytical Perspectives on Gender Culture Through Dance at Links Hall, 3435 N. Sheffield Ave. The performance, a collaborative cultural examination of sex and gender roles in society, begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for students and seniors. Neon Marshmallow Fest day 4 @ Viaduct Theater

Day four of the four-day noise/experimental Neon Marshmallow Festival begins today at the Viaduct Theater (3111 N. Western Ave.). The Vintage Bazaar @ The Congress Theater

After a succesful run earlier this year, The Vintage Bazaar is back. Featuring 50+ vendors, the pop-up flea market showcases vintage clothing, antiques, furniture and accessories. Women's Empowerment Screenings @ Cultural Center

This afternoon, the Chicago Cultural Center hosts another two films centered on women's empowerment as part of a four-film series begun on August 15th. Today, Going on 13 and Troop 1500 will play, with a panel discussion following each screening. Going on 13, the story of three girls of color in the tough transition from girl to woman, plays today at noon. Keeping the focus on the young, Troop 1500, a film that follows a very unique Girl Scout troop focused on uniting its members with their incarcerated mothers, will play at 2:30pm.

Admission is free. The Chicago Cultural Center is located at 78 E Washington.

The Great Midwest Ukefest

The Great Midwest Ukefest, presented by the Chicago Ukulele Carabet, will feature eight hours of live uke music today from 2 to 10pm at Chief O'Neill's Pub and Restaurant, 3471 N. Elston Ave. In addition, there will be a BBQ, an outdoor beer garden, and raffle items, with proceeds benefiting the Intonation Music Workshop. Tickets are $10. Slow Food Chicago Pig Roast @ Goose Island

Slow Food Chicago hosts its annual Pig Roast benefit today at Goose Island (1800 W Fulton) from 2-5pm. Goose Island provides the drinks, and chefs from places like Mado and Kith & Kin do the swine prep. There's vegetarian options, too! Tickets are $50 before August 1; $60 after.

Go Topless Day

Today is National Go Topless Day, an annual protest against skin-baring inequality. Chicago's contingent will meet at the North Avenue Beach House from noon until 6pm. Free as a jaybird.
