Weedeater @ Reggie's Rock Club

In the mid-90's, Charlotte, NC band Buzzov-en were the Southeast's answer to the Northwest's Melvins. Sludgy, stony, and loud. Weedeater formed out of Buzzov-en's demise, and since 1997, have largely been carrying on the sludgy, stony and loud trail, albeit a little more sinister sounding. Catch them tonight with some of the sludgiest locals in town, as Witchbanger, My Cold Dead Hand, and Beak all open up for them at Reggie's Rock Club, 2105-2109 S. State St. 18+. $12ADV/$15DOS.

Write Club @ The Hideout

Write Club takes the concept of a slam competition and makes it more personal, pitting two people head to head. Tonight there will be three bouts: Rock vs. Roll (improvOlympian Katie Rich vs. New Colony's Whit Nelson), Work vs. Play (Write Club host Ian Belknap vs. Neo-Futurist alum Chloe Johnston) and Land vs. Sea (performance poet John Paul Davis vs. Gapers Block's own Lindsay Muscato). Each contestant has seven minutes, winner chosen by the audience. $8 donation; proceeds go to charity of winner's choice. The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, 7pm.

Josh Berman @ MCA's Tuesdays on the Terrace

Every Tuesday during the summer the Museum of Contemporary Art presents free live jazz concerts from some of the city's most legendary and innovative musicians. Tonight's performance features Josh Berman. Grab some friends and a blanket for a relaxing evening on the garden lawn, or make a night of it with a reservation at Puck's. Snacks and beverages, including wine and seasonal cocktails are available for purchase. 5:30-8pm. 220 E. Chicago Ave.

Shonen Knife @ Schubas

All-girl Japanese rock band Shonen Knife ( 少年ナイフ) formed in the early 80s and were influenced by 60s girl groups and punk bands like the Ramones. The attention they had received led to a double-album tribute, featuring bands like Sonic Youth, L7, Babes in Toyland. Don't miss out on them when they return to Chicago tonight, performing at Schubas (3159 N Southport Ave) at 9pm. Tickets are $14 and can be purchased here. 21+.

Diabetes & Obesity: Confronting the Epidemic @ UIC Forum
