Facets Fright School: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Facets Cinematheque presents the latest in their current series of midnight movies, Facets Fright School. Tonight's film is the infamous Tobe Hooper film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre from 1974. The film will be introduced by Facets volunteer Dominick Mayer. Facets Fright School starts tonight at midnight. Admission is $5. DA! @ The Abbey Pub

Shakespeare Project of Chicago @ Newberry Library

The Newberry Library Center for Renaissance Studies presents its first Shakespeare Project of Chicago staged reading of the 2010-11 season. The center will perform a reading of Measure for Measure at 10am at the Newberry Library, 40 W. Walton St. The performance is free and will be followed by a discussion with the director and cast. No tickets required.

Gorillaz @ UIC Pavilion

It may have taken some time, but eventually the gimmick of a virtual cartoon rock band wore off and people realized that Gorillaz actually had some good music. The Damon Albarn/Jamie Hewlett rock/electronic/hip hop/visual project has existed for a decade, but this is just their 2nd trip to Chicago. And this time they'll step out from behind the holograms to perform. The show's at UIC Pavilion (1150 W Harrison St), 7:30pm, and tickets range from $65 to $95.

Robin Chapman @ Unity Temple

Tonight, the Unity Temple in Oak Park (875 Lake St., Oak Park, Il.) will host Madison, Wis., poet Robin Chapman. Open mic starts at 8pm (7:30pm sign-up) and Chapman goes on at 9pm. A $3-5 donation is suggested.

PureData Workshop @ Pumping Station: One

Pumping Station: One, the Chicago hackerspace, presents a workshop to learn the PureData tool for music and multimedia authoring. The workshop happens this afternoon at 3pm at the Pumping Station: One space at 3354 N. Elston. The workshop is free and open to the public.

This exhibition co-curated by Larry Lee and Johannah Silva, blurs the literal boundary between home and gallery and investigates how we neatly file artwork neatly in terms of feng shui. Order of Odd-Fish Dome of Doom @ Pritzker Park

Collaboraction is once again joining forces with local author James Kennedy (The Order of Odd-Fish) for a Dome of Doom Dance Party. Competitors of all ages will don costumes of their own making and jump into the battle zone where they'll have 60 seconds to show off their best dance moves and defeat their opponent. Anyone is welcome to join, even passersby, so costumes will be provided for those who have not brought one with them. 2pm-5pm in Pritzker Park at State and Van Buren.

Two-Hour Comedy Hour @ Gallery Cabaret

This week's Two-Hour Comedy Hour, hosted by Bill Cruz, features comedians Joe Fernandez, Trey Mowder, Joe Motisi, Aaron Foster, Sam Norton and Aaron Weaver. This free show features a fresh mix of comedians each week. There's no cover for the 21+ show - though a $5 donation is accepted - and it runs from 7-9 pm at Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley (near Western and Milwaukee, just off the Blue Line stop). Guests are encouraged to arrive early.

Luna Negra Fall Season @ Harris Theater

Luna Negra Dance Company celebrates its first season led by Artistic Director Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, featuring contemporary Latino dance including "Toda una Vida" by Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, the world premiere of "Bate" by Fernando Melo, and the North American premiere of "Deshár Alhát" by Eduardo Vilaro. The performance takes place at 6:30pm at Harris Theater in Millennium Park, 205 E. Joffrey Ballet "All Stars" @ Auditorium Theatre

The Joffrey Ballet opens their 2010-2011 Season with "All Stars," a performance featuring George Balanchine's Stravinsky Violin Concerto (1972), an homage to Igor Stravinsky; Balanchine's brief but explosive pas de deux Tarantella; Christopher Wheeldon's After the Rain (2005); and Jerome Robbins' charming and hilarious The Concert (1956). The performances take place at 2 pm and 7:30 pm at Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy. Tristan Perich's "1-Bit Symphony" @ Lampo

LAMPO kicks off its fall 2010 season with Tristan Perich, whose array of intentionally crude electronic triggering devices come together in what he calls a "1-Bit Symphony." This LAMPO-sponsored performance takes place at the Graham Foundation's Madlener House (4 W. Burton Pl., Chicago) tonight at 8pm. The event is FREE, but reservations are required. Christopher Daniels @ Challengers Comics

You might know him as The Fallen Angel, Curry Man, or Suicide -- today, Christopher Daniels' will be signing and hanging out at Challengers Comics (1845 N. Western Ave. 2R ) from 12-3pm. There'll be "all the cool stuff you can usually only get at live wrestling shows", and tickets for that night's Ring of Honor show in Chicago Ridge.
