Facets Fright School: Fright Night

Facets Cinematheque presents the latest in their current series of midnight movies, Facets Fright School. Tonight's film is the 1980s horror classic Fright Night with Roddy McDowell as a TV horror movie show host who has to confront real monsters. The movie will be introduced by Facets instructor Cary Jones Elza. Facets Fright School starts tonight at midnight. Admission is $5. Mugs @ LVL3 Gallery

More than just a means of holding your morning coffee, mugs are objects to be bought, sold, collected, and given. As our culture changes, so too does our relationship to such everyday objects. Mugs, held in conjunction with Chicago Artists Month, is an unconventional approach to artistic expression where each artist selects a mug that holds personal symbolic meaning. The opening reception for Mugs takes place tonight from 6pm to 10pm at the temporary LVL3 project space in the Merchandise Mart, 222 West Merchandise Mart Plaza, Suite 1573. The exhibition runs through October 31.

Callers @ Ronny's

Brooklyn's Callers sound like a soul vocalist and an avant-garde rock band collaborated after hearing each other through the walls of adjoining practice spaces. Singer Sara Lucas may remind listeners of a lighter Nina Simone or Norah Jones, while the band evokes a serene art-rock sound. Callers play Ronny's with Rollin Hunt, Rock Falls and the Spend. Doors open at 8pm and it's 21+. Ronny's is at 2101 N California.

Dance Slam @ University of Chicago

Dance Chicago 2010's Dance Slam, a competition featuring dancers who perform various dance styles including tap, ballet and hip hop, is tonight at 7:30pm at University of Chicago's Mandel Hall, 1131 E. 57th St. Tickets are $25 and are available online or at the door (cash only). Phil Spector Documentary @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents the 2010 documentary The Agony And Ecstasy of Phil Spector, featuring an extended interview with Spector and countless examples of his classic musical creations. Charlie Chaplin Film Series @ The Music Box Theatre

Starting tonight the Music Box Theatre presents it's two week-long Charlie Chaplin film series with brand new, fully restored, 35mm prints. Films include: The Circus, City Lights, The Gold Rush, The Great Dictator, The Kid and Modern Times. The Level Eater @ Co-Prosperity Sphere

In conjunction with Pentagon gallery, Co-Prosperity Sphere (3219 S. Morgan St.) presents THE LEVEL EATER, opens up tonight at 8pm. This exhibition features the work of Jeriah Hildwine, Luke Willard, Michael Garcia, Nick Bahr and Sam Sieger. This three day event combines two worlds, turning gaming into art and art into gaming. Joffrey Ballet "All Stars" @ Auditorium Theatre

The Joffrey Ballet opens their 2010-2011 Season with "All Stars," a performance featuring George Balanchine's Stravinsky Violin Concerto (1972), an homage to Igor Stravinsky; Balanchine's brief but explosive pas de deux Tarantella; Christopher Wheeldon's After the Rain (2005); and Jerome Robbins' charming and hilarious The Concert (1956). The performance takes place at 7:30 pm at Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy.
