Books: Reading Jennifer Homans: Apollo's Angels: A History of Ballet @ Newberry Library

Saw Black Swan recently, and want to know more about the history behind the drama? Don't care about the movie, but appreciate the tradition that's been swayed and dipped by the culture of the time, be it Renaissance and Classicism, the Enlightenment and Romanticism, Bolshevism, Modernism, or the Cold War? The Newberry Library hosts Jennifer Homans, author of Apollo's Angels: A History of Ballet , a rich history and exploration of ballet, a form dance that maintains traditions yet is very much of its time. 60 W Walton St, 1pm. "The Paul Show" @ The Charnel House

Fifteen artists from the recently established training center Klein Artists Works will stage an exhibition of their works at the Charnel House, a new multi-arts center in Logan Square. Featured artists include Jess Beyler, Robert Fields, Doug Frohman, Teresa Getty, Tatjana Jovancevic, Andrew Rigsby, René Romero Schuler, Jill Pope West, and Peggy Wolff. The opening reception for The Paul Show takes place today from 6 pm to 9 pm, 3421 West Fullerton.

Movie Night @ Pumping Station: One

Eyes Without A Face @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center continues their series of psychological horror films with the astounding Eyes Without A Face from 1959, which tells the story of a surgeon who will stop at nothing to restore his daughter's disfigured face. Two Hour Comedy Hour

The Two Hour Comedy Hour returns to the Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley Ave., from 7pm to 9pm tonight, with new hosts Emily Lake and Charlie Lind taking over for founders Trey Mowder and Derek Lazarski. The weekly show will feature a mix of local and national stand-up comedians and one weekly sketch group. At tonight's show are Ken Barnard, Chris Condren, Gwen LaRoka, Luke Robbins and the comedy sketch group "The Help." Free, 21+.

The Cornelia Arts Building, 1800 W. Cornelia Ave., holds a valentine-themed open house today from noon to 4pm. Shop for jewelry, paintings, sculpture and other fine arts and crafts for your loved one. Free.

Fitz & The Tantrums @ Metro

Fitz & The Tantrums plays the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., tonight with JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, The Right Now and Soul Summit DJs opening. Doors open at 8pm, music starts around 9. Tickets are $12 in advance. 18+

Crossroads Fund - Social Hour for Social Change

The Crossroads Fund is hosting a fundraiser at T's Bar and Restaurant at 5025 N. Clark. Saturday, February 5, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, 10 percent of food and liquor purchases are going to the fund--and there's no cover.

Crossroads funds a number of social justice initiatives in Chicago, including safety from bullying for kids in schools, justice for prisoners, workers' rights, and equality for LGBT folks.

PORQUES NO COMES @ Gorilla Tango

Lupe Sanchez performs his "semi-falsified, autobiographical one-man performance", PORQUE NO COMES, tonight at Gorilla Tango Theatre (1919 N. Milwaukee Ave). PORQUE NO COMES (Because You Don't Eat) is the comedic story of a Latino boy (Lupe himself) growing up in a white suburb (Schaumburg to be specific), and his journey to find understanding and identity. Show starts at 9:30pm. Tickets are $10.
