Facets Night School: Female Prisoner Scorpion #701: Beast Stable

Facets Cinematheque continues its Facets Night School series tonight with a screening of the grindhouse classic Female Prisoner Scorpion #701: Beast Stable from 1973. The screening will be accompanied by a lecture/discussion of the film by writer & film-maker Katherine Rife. Jaguar Headband Twins @ Comfort Station

Logan Square artist Jordan Martins presents his contemporary yet Baroque collages at Comfort Station (2579 N. Milwaukee Ave) tonight: drawing from sources like old cookbooks, comics, encyclopedias and other castoff texts, he brings this disparate elements together to form two- and three-dimensional compositions. 7-10pm.

Sound of Silent Film Festival

Access Contemporary Music presents the Sound of Silent Film Festival, featuring modern silent films -- including works by Martin Scorsese and Gus Van Sant -- accompanied by live music composed by Chicago composers especially for each film. The festival runs April 1-3 at the Chopin Theater, 1543 W. Division St. The same films are shown each day; tonight's screening starts at 9pm. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door, $8 for students and seniors.

Tumblr Reads! @ Street Side Bar

Tumblr continues its city-based readings in Chicago with local writers (and Tumblr fanatics) Joe Erbentraut, Arianna Stern, Katherine Gilhooly, and Britt Julious. The meetup and reading begins at 7pm at Street Side Bar, 3201 West Armitage.

Abstract Giants CD Release Show @ Martyrs

Chicago hip hop collective Abstract Giants celebrate the release of their third album at Martyrs on Saturday, April 2. Abstract Giants have spent the past ten years creating an original sound combines live instrumentation and some of the city's slickest emcees. Openers will be The Opus and Animate Objects.
