Edible Books & Tea

The Center for Book & Paper Arts' 12th annual Edible Books & Tea is this evening from 6pm to 8pm in the Columbia College Chicago Library, 624 S. Michigan Ave., 3rd Floor—North. All the books on display are made from edible materials -- and many will be devoured at this event. Admission is $10, $5 for members and Columbia students.

Never Been to Paris @ CCPA

Sean Flannery's one-man show, Never Been to Paris, follows up a sold-out run last fall with a second run this spring at the Chicago Center for Performing Arts, 777 N. J Mascis with Kurt Vile & The Violators @ Subterranean

Legendary Dinosaur Jr.'s front man performs at Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave., with Kurt Vile & The Violators on April Fool's Day. Doors are at 9pm with showtime at 10pm. The show is 17+ and tickets are $18.

Magnetic Fields doc @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a return engagement of the Magnetic Fields/Stephin Merritt documentary Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields. 16th Annual Asian American Showcase @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents its 16th annual Asian American Showcase from April 1st through the 14th. Tonight's opening film, Surrogate Valentine, stars songwriter & musician Goh Nakamura as himself. The film's director, Dave Boyle, and Nakamura will be attending tonight's 8pm screening in person. "Gala Undone" Benefit Art Party & Auction @ Venue One

"Gala Undone" is Urban Gateway's 50th anniversary party, hosted by New Arts Forum. The party will feature an open bar, snacks, and silent art auction. There will also be a performance by UG group, BAM!, live mural art by UG artist James "Casper" Jankowiak and tunes by DJ Mister Wolf (of Only Children). 21+. Spätzle 3 Ways Cooking Class @ DANK-HAUS

Learn how to make Spätzle--the soft egg noodles common to several European cuisines--with a basket, with a press and on a board at this month's DANK-HAUS cooking class. Jason Reblando's Youth Boxing Photos @ Canale Art Lounge

Photographer Jason Reblando visited the amateur boxing clubs of the Chicago Park District, documenting young athletes in transition, caught between childhood and adulthood. His photos are showing this weekend at the Canale Art Lounge in Pilsen (the old Schoenhofen Brewery building, 500 W. 18th Street). Sound of Silent Film Festival

Access Contemporary Music presents the Sound of Silent Film Festival, featuring modern silent films -- including works by Martin Scorsese and Gus Van Sant -- accompanied by live music composed by Chicago composers especially for each film. The festival runs April 1-3 at the Chopin Theater, 1543 W. Division St. The same films are shown each day; tonight's screening starts at 9pm. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door, $8 for students and seniors.

The Interview Show @ Hideout

Mark Bazer's monthly Interview Show at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., tonight features Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, author Wendy McClure, shop owner Larry Vodak, and musical guests Rego and S-Preme. The show is 6:30pm to 8pm, and costs $8 at the door. 21+

Taste of Zafen @ DePaul

Celebrate the first birthday of Zafen, a microfinance initiative for rebuilding Haiti, tonight from 5-7:30pm at the DePaul Center, 1 East Jackson. For $25, you'll get wine, cheese, chocolate from the French Pastry School, and a silent auction.
