Journey to the End of Night @ Welles Park

Chicago Ukulele Cabaret: Uke Gastronomica @ Silvie's

The Chicago Ukulele Cabaret presents the latest in its seasonal open mike evenings at Silvie's Lounge (1902 W. Irving Park Road, just west of the Brown Line stop). Tonight's theme: Uke Gastronomica. Musicians are invited to play up to 3 food- or drink-related songs in a 15 minute set; a ukulele must be one of the instruments for all your songs. Apart from that, you're free to do as you wish; costumes, skits and audience participation are encouraged. The evening starts at 8pm, and there's no cover charge. Bark in the Park @ Montrose Harbor

The Anti-Cruelty Society welcomes pet lovers to its seventeenth annual Bark in the Park, featuring a 5k walk and all sorts of fun for humans and their animal companions alike. The walk kicks off at 9 am at Montrose Harbor. The day will also feature dogs in costume, a pet talent scout, and doggie massage, among other activities. Bake Sale & Butcher & Larder

Butcher & Larder, 1026 N. Milwaukee Ave., hosts a bake sale benefiting Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale today from 10am to 4pm. The bake sale, organized by Roll Chicago, will feature sweet and savory treats of all sorts, donated by a wide range of businesses and individuals. Cash only. Wort Workshop Series #3 @ Spoke

PUBLIC BREWERY is part art installation, part DIY brewery, and completely community oriented. Visitors are invited to bring an ingredient they have grown or purchased locally to be used as part of today's workshop demonstrating home-brewing techniques. Today's brew will be a Pilsen Beekeeper's Ale incorporating malted honey and three pounds of local honey from beekeeper Donna Oppolo. Oppolo will also facilitate discussions on local food production. An exhibition at the end of the month allows today's participants to taste the fruits of their labor. Today's workshop runs from 3 - 8pm. Participants must be at least 21 years old. $5 entry fee. Spoke is located at 119 North Peoria, #2D.

Jonathan Hickman Signing and Q&A

Writer Jonathan Hickman, best known for his work on Marvel Comic's Fantastic Four, Secret Warriors and SHIELD, will be signing at The Comic Vault, located at Ashland and Montrose, for Free Comic Book Day. The signing will begin at noon and run until 4pm. Limit two items per person.

The Q&A session is by ticket only and will be moderated by local Chicago writer Elliot Serrano. Tickets are limited to the first fifty people who pre-order Hickman's latest hardcover, SHIELD: Architects of Forever.

Free Comic Book Day 2011

It's that time of year again, Free Comic Book Day! Check out any one of Chicago's many comic book shops this Saturday for a whole host of free product available from Marvel, DC and pretty much every other comic book publisher in the business. Visit your local shop for this year's offerings.

Harmony in Three Parts @ Hyde Park Art Center

Today from 2pm-3:30pm Harmony in Three Parts (a panel discussion) happens in conjunction with Conrad Freiburg's It Is What It Isn't, featuring physicist Heinrich Jaeger, musicologist Lawrence Zbikowski, and Conrad Freiburg. This multi-disciplinary discussion and demonstration will allow three scholars to examine how different types of knowledge inform our thinking and how each of these ways of thinking converge and diverge on the subject of harmony, movement, and language. Green City Market @ Lincoln Park

Green City Market moves to their outside location starting today, ready with radishes, rhubarb, asparagus, spring greens, and of course locally made pastries, whole grains and spreads. Sarah Stegner and George Bumbaris of Prairie Fire will be doing a cooking demo at 10:30. The market runs Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, May through October.
