Facets Night School: The Masque of Red Death

Facets Cinematheque presents Facets Night School, its occasional series of midnight cult film screenings paired with guest lecture/discussion sessions. Tonight's movie is the Roger Corman Poe adaptation the Masque of Red Death, with discussion by author Joel Wicklund. Fork and the Road Tours: Latin Meat Lovers

Meet at Intelligensia Coffee in the Loop (53 E Randolph) today at 11am for a bike-guided trip to the south side for a tasting of several of the city's best Latin meat. Tacquerias, Argentinian steak houses, and a Cuban restaurant are on the menu. Tour led by Fork and the Road; tickets $60. Event ends at 5pm.

The Paper Machete

The Paper Machete, a "weekly salon in a saloon," this week features actress Rondi Reed, playwright Will Nedved, Neo-Futurist Lisa Buscani, A.V. Club editor Marcus Gilmer, improver Peter Kremidas, writer/performer David Isaacson, and writer/performer Ali Weiss. Musical guests include Jessie FIsher and Erik Hellman, and Real Tits, the latest band from John Szymanski and John Bliss. The show starts at 3pm at The Horseshoe, 4115 N. Lincoln Ave. Free, 21+.

Being a Chef: Pissaladière and Socca @ Alliance Francaise

Join the Alliance Francaise to learn to make pissaladière (tarts filled with caramelized onions and garnished with anchovies and olives) and socca (a chickpea crepe) today from 10am-1pm. Class takes place at 810 N. Dearborn; $85 for members, $95 for non-members.

DMB Caravan @ Lakeside

Performances begin at 1:30pm today for the inaugural Dave Matthews Band Caravan festival in Chicago. It takes place at Lakeside, a former site of a steel mill, about 9 miles south of the Loop, between 79th and 87th Streets along Lake Michigan. (See the FAQ) Today's lineup includes: Dave Matthews Band, Kid Cudi, Ben Folds, Umphrey’s McGee, moe., G. Love and Special Sauce, Liz Phair, Vieux Farka Toure, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, TR3, Bombino, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Cornmeal, plus a special performance by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. Roscoe Village Burger Fest

Roscoe Village hosts its annual Burger Fest street festival from 11am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday at Damen and Belmont, featuring, you guessed it, hamburgers from nine area restaurants, music on two stages and more fun for the kids and their parents. $6 suggested donation.

L.A.T.E. Ride

Want to bike en masse around the city tonight? The L.A.T.E. Ride is a great opportunity to exercise and see Chicago at night in a safe, fun way. Starts at midnight on Sunday (late Saturday night) at Buckingham Fountain, weaves through several neighborhoods, has a mid-ride rest station with snacks and water, and ends at the starting place about six hours later for a sunrise post-ride breakfast. Admission $45.

Chicago Folk & Roots Festival

The Old Town School of Folk Music presents the 14th annual Chicago Folk & Roots Festival at Welles Park (on Lincoln Avenue between Montrose & Sunnyside). Six stages running performances and workshops all day, plenty of food & crafts vendors, and much more. The festival happens today and tomorrow from noon to 9:30pm, and admission is a suggested donation of $10. See the festival's Website for full information.

The Outfit Roller Derby

The Chicago Outfit roller derby team goes up against arch rivals, er, the Arch Rival Roller Girls from St. Louis at the Windy City Fieldhouse, 2367 W. Logan Blvd., tonight at 6pm. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. All ages.
