Best Buddies Illinois Mixer @ Rockit
Best Buddies Illinois, a nonprofit that facilitates one-on-one friendships for intellectually and developmentally disabled people, is holding a meet and mingle event at Rockit Bar & Grill, 22 W. Hubbard St., tonight from 6pm to 8pm. Enjoy complimentary vodka cocktails, draft beer, wine and appetizers while mingling with other Best Buddies supporters. Admission is $25 in advance, $30 at the door. 21+
DIY CNC Night @ Pumping Station: One
Pumping Station: One, the Chicago hackerspace, invites you to come to their space at 3354 N. Elston for an evening of discussion of computer numerical control, or CNC. If your'e working on a homebrew 3-D printer, router, laser cutter, or other computerized manufacturing tool, you're invited to come and show off your tools or your products. The meeting begins at 7pm tonight, and is free and open to the public.
An Evening of Fashion Under the Stars
View the Holiday 2011 Collection at local designer, Anastasia Chatzka's "An Evening Under the Stars" fashion show. The event will take place in the courtyard at Tocco restaurant in Wicker Park (just blocks from the designers' flagship store). H'ordeuvres will be supplied by Tocco before the show, but be sure to stay afterward and enjoy the after party. Tocco is located at 1266 N Milwaukee. CCLaP Book Release Party @ Beauty Bar
Tonight, the Chicago Center for Literature and Photography (CCLAP) presents their quadruple book release party at Beauty Bar, featuring readings from all four authors - Sally Weigel (Too Young To Fall Asleep), Ben Tanzer (99 Problems), Mark R. Brand (Life After Sleep) and Jason Fisk (Salt Creek Anthology). Books available for $20 each or the whole shebang for $50. Free food, cash bar, DJ and dancing afterward. Beauty Bar, 1444 W. Scary Funny @ Argo Tea
Tonight, author Alan Goldsher (Paul Is Undead) presents "Scary Funny: The Art of Combining Horror and Humor" at Argo Tea on Broadway. It's free and you can win tickets to Comic Con. Argo Tea, 3135 N. Broadway, 7pm.
Taste of the Nation @ Navy Pier Ballroom
If you are a sucker for events in which some of the city's best chefs get together in one room to dish out their high-end eats and drinks for one special evening, Taste of the Nation is a great opportunity to support anti-hunger charities while getting your chow on.
