Anne Elizabeth Moore Book Release

Chicago Publishes celebrates the release of Anne Elizabeth Moore's latest book, Cambodian Grrrl: Self-Publishing in Phnom Penh, with a reading and reception in the Claudia Cassidy Theater at the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph St., tonight at 6pm. Free.

Messing For A Cause @ Mary's Attic

Susan Messing and Tim Baltz will be performing improv a la "Messing with a Friend," to support GLBT youth along with the Alliance, Jeanie Doogan & Adam Guerino and Krystal LaFianza-Pitzen. It's September, which means the kids are back in school, and all four core members of TMIT are back in the house and reading tonight: Larry Kerns, Dorrie Ferguson, Scott Whitehair and Deanna Moffitt. Doctor Who 101 @ Wormhole Coffee

The Chicago Nerds Social Club present the second installment in their Doctor Who 101 series tonight at Wormhole Coffee (1462 N. Milwaukee) from 7 to 9pm. If you're interested in getting up to speed with the Doctor's exploits, then stop by and hear this presentation by Gordon Dymowski, writer, blogger and Doctor Who fan. Built Festival

The Built Festival uses shipping containers to turn a vacant lot at 1767 N. Milwaukee Ave. into a pop-up festival venue, Friday night from 5pm to 10:30pm and today from noon to 10:30pm. Enjoy live music while you check out work by local artists and crafters. Admission is $10 in advance or at the door.

Dan Sinker Book Reading @ MCA

Dan Sinker reads from his book The F***ing Epic Twitter Quest of @MayorEmanuel and discusses the book with author Joe Meno and journalist Carol Marin tonight 6pm in the Kanter Education Center at the MCA, 200 E.
