Pee It Forward @ Empty Bottle

The Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., holds a launch party for a charity auction of coasters made from the old floor and men's bathroom at the club. The proceeds go to benefit the Illinois chapter of the American Liver Foundation. Amina Gautier @ Women and Children First

Tonight, author Amina Gautier reads from her short story collection At Risk at Women and Children First. Polynesian Music & Dance Workshops @ Old Town School of Folk Music

The Old Town School of Folk Music presents a pair of music & dance workshops tonight headed by members of the Polynesian band Te Vaka. The music workshop runs from 6pm to 7:20, and covers music from Tokelau, Tuvalu, and Samoa; the dance workshop runs from 7pm to 8:20 and will include dance from Tokelau, New Zealand, and Samoa. Chicago Women in Publishing Fall Reception

Tonight, CWIP will hold its fall kickoff event at the Gleacher Center, 450 N. Cityfront Plaza Dr., from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The keynote speaker will be Jennifer Parello, director of marketing and communication for World Book. Come for her tips for successfully navigating the publishing industry today, and stay for networking and hors d'oeuvres from Wolfgang Puck. Win-win. Mira Bartok @ the Book Cellar

Mira Bartok, SAIC alum and author of several children's books, promotes the paperback release of her memoir, The Memory Palace. Bartok will read excepts from her work beginning at 7pm at the Book Cellar 4736 N Lincoln Ave # 1.

The Boogie Down @ Beauty Bar

Tonight Beauty Bar Chicago, 1444 W. Chicago Ave., will be hosting The Boogie Down from 9-12pm. A disco party with DJ sets by Kid Color, Stefan Ponce and Vik Vega. The night will be about shakin' your groove thang and enjoying old/new disco and also some funk. Doors open at 9pm, free before 11pm, afterwards $3. 21+

Volunteers Needed @ Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation

CitySwarm is looking for people to take some time and volunteer for the Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation, 2227 W. Belmont Ave., tonight at 6:15pm. Volunteers will spend half an hour walking dogs to nearby parks in the neighborhood, making sure the dogs get a healthy dose of exercise and love. After the walk volunteers will head to the Village Tap, 2055 W. Roscoe St., who will be providing appetizers. $5 registration fee. Must be on time to the CCRF (6:15pm) to participate. 21+.
