The Gene Siskel Film Center concludes its two-week run of the 2011 documentary The Interrupters tonight with a benefit screening for CeaseFire, the violence prevention group profiled in the film. The Silent Film Society of Chicago presents the original 1925 film The Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney in the role of the phantom, and Mary Philbin as Christine. Live photoplay accompaniment by organist Jay Warren. Prizes for best "phantom" and "Christine" costume. The Whistler, 2421 N. Milwaukee Ave., hosts an evening of Brazilian music, featuring Casa de Soul and a DJ set by the Reader's Peter Margasak, starting at 9:30pm. No cover, 21+.
The Admiral Theater, 3940 W. Lawrence Ave., has brought back its Night of the Stripping Dead zombie burlesque -- and this year it's on four nights, Oct. 18-21. Each night will feature a slightly different lineup of performers, beginning at 9pm. There's also a zombie stripper costume contest, and several of the city's food trucks will be parked outside for nourishment. Tickets are $35, or $50 for VIP seating with a t-shirt and signed poster.
