Facets Multimedia presents the return of Facets Night School, their semi-regular series of midnight cult movie screenings paired with lectures on the films' subjects (renamed Facets Fright School for this run, due to this series' focus on horror films). Tonight's program is a series of shorts, including David Lynch's first film The Alphabet, Monte Hellman's Stanley's Girlfriend, and Tim Burton's short film Vincent (narrated by Vincent Price). Tonight's lecture will be given by author and Facets Night School regular Joel Wicklund. Facets Fright School runs Friday and Saturday nights at midnight through October 29. Obits fuses a surf-rock influence into a post-punk sound. The foursome are on tour in support of their latest album Moody, Standard & Poor. Obits headline Subterranean. Chicago's Bottomless Pit and Coffin Pricks open at 9:30pm. The show's 17+ and $12. Subterranean's at 2011 W North.
The Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave., hosts Terror in the Aisles, the ninth annual horror movie marathon, tonight starting at 6pm. Feature films this year include Shaun of the Dead, An American Werewolf in London, Dance of the Dead and Demons, plus plenty of horror shorts. Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 at the door. All ages.
Tonight at 8pm, new theater company the Agency hosts their debut gala. "The Enigma Machine," an evening centered around a theme of codes and secrets, will feature drinks, interactive live entertainment, food, prizes and more. Ticket sales and donations benefit the Agency's upcoming docket of shows and events.

The Tribune's series of conversations with authors continues today with Pulitzer Prize winner Jeffrey Eugenides (Middlesex, The Virgin Suicides). The event will be held at the Murphy Auditorium at 6:30pm, and costs $30 -- which includes a copy of The Marriage Plot, his much-anticipated follow-up to Middlesex.
Bridgeport's MDW Fair (pronounced Midway) returns this weekend for its Fall Showcase "of solo and duo exhibitions curated by small not-for-profits, artist-run spaces, independent galleries, collectives and curators from around the country." Organized in conjunction with the Hand in Glove Conference, which you must have regiustered to attend. MDW Fair is open to the general public. Join the Vernissage party this Friday, Oct. 21, from 8-11pm. The fair runs tonight through October 23 at The Geolofts, 3636 S. Iron St., noon to 6pm. $5 admission.
The Admiral Theater, 3940 W. Lawrence Ave., has brought back its Night of the Stripping Dead zombie burlesque -- and this year it's on four nights, Oct. 18-21. Each night will feature a slightly different lineup of performers, beginning at 9pm. There's also a zombie stripper costume contest, and several of the city's food trucks will be parked outside for nourishment. Tickets are $35, or $50 for VIP seating with a t-shirt and signed poster.
