Jake Austen, publisher of Roctober, hosts a book release party for his new book Flying Saucers Rock 'n' Roll tonight at 6:30pm at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington). In addition to readings from the book, the event will feature a video presentation called "Flying Saucers Rock!", a collection of performances from some of the artists mentioned in Austen's book, and there will be a special performance by Milt Trenier, the last surviving member of the 1950s R&B band The Treniers. The event is free and open to the public.
The Moth StorySLAM returns to Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., tonight at 8pm. Watch people tell true stories up on stage -- and possibly even join them. Tickets are $8 at the door. 21+
Table fifty-two, 52 W. Elm St., will combined the upcoming launch of their new Southern Wine List with a five-course American South Wine Dinner tonight beginning at 7pm. Crafted by Chef de Cuisine Rey Villalobos the meal will feature traditional southern pairings with hard-to-find wine produced in Georgia, Louisiana, Virginia, Texas and Kentucky. The dinner pairing will be the first of its kind in Chicago because many of the wineries have only begun to harvest within the last 15 years. $85 per person, not including tax or gratuity. The Chicago Theatre opened on Oct. 26, 1921, and in honor of its 90th birthday, the theater is offering special tours Monday through Wednesday at 6pm. The tours will include a rare performance by the theater's Wurlitzer pipe organ. Tickets are $15 in advance or $12 at the box office.
Write Club has it's 19th Chapter Tuesday October 25th. Like its name sounds, Write Club is a literary bout between writers with each given a theme. This chapter, the Halloween themed match ups are:
DEAD (Emily Rose) vs. UNDEAD (Samantha Irby),
DUSK (David Isaacson) vs. DAWN (Noelle Krimm), and
TRICK (Ian Belknap) vs. TREAT (Whit Nelson).
