Globalfest: Latin America

Chicago Fair Trade celebrates Globalfest: Latin America at the National Museum of Mexican Art, 1852 W. 19th St., tonight from 6pm to 9:30pm. Tickets are $50. Enjoy include appetizers, fair trade wine and cocktail while bidding on items in a silent auction. Guests will have the opportunity to view the museum's "Day of the Dead" exhibit from 5:30-7:30pm. A short program will highlight Latin American fair trade producers and recognize Bill Lamme, this year's Changemaker honoree.

Facets Fright School: The Devil's Rain

Facets Multimedia presents the return of Facets Night School, their semi-regular series of midnight cult movie screenings paired with lectures on the films' subjects (renamed Facets Fright School for this run, due to this series' focus on horror films). Tonight's screening: The Devil's Rain from 1975, with a stellar 1970s cast: Ernest Borgnine, William Shatner, Eddie Albert, Ida Lupino, Tom Skerritt, and John Travolta in his big-screen debut. Tonight's lecture will be given by longtime Facets Night School regular Chris Damen. Facets Fright School runs Friday and Saturday nights at midnight through October 29. JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, White Mystery @ Double Door

Come celebrate the debut album release from Chicago neo-soul rockers JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound. Joining them on the bill are ginger-haired punk darlings White Mystery. Jersey Shore Conference @ UofC

The University of Chicago Conference on Jersey Shore Studies is a serious examination of the pop culture phenomenon that is "Jersey Shore," and its cultural repercussions. The conference begins at 9am in Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E. 59th St., and runs through 6pm, with a reception afterward until 8pm. Registration is free.

Paul van Dyk & Paul Oakenfold @ Congress

The Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave., hosts a night of DJs featuring Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Michael S, R3HAB, Mixin Marc and more. Tickets are $25 in advance. 17+

Chainlink Halloween Party

The Chainlink hosts a Halloween party on Friday, October 28 at Galway Arms, 2442 N. Clark St., from 8pm to midnight. The party, sponsored by Half Acre Beer, will be the pre-kickoff to the Chicago Bike Film Festival next weekend, with local bike films being shown all night. The party will also be a stop on the annual Halloween Critical Mass Ride. $5 cover gets you a Half Acre beer and two raffle tickets; Half Acre will be on sale for $3 and additional tickets are $1 each. 21+

Logan Square Lit Review Halloween Reading

The Logan Square Literary Review hosts an evening of spooky readings Friday October 28th. Readers include Lara Levitan, Michael McCauley, and Alicia Hilton, but who else is a mystery, ooohh ahhhh. This event is BYOB, but there will be spiked cider and Halloween candy. While you're there, pick up past issues of the review. Come in costume if you dare!.The reading is at Quimby's, 1854 W. North ave, 7pm.

MAKE Literary Magazine Issue 11 Release Party

The Chicago literary magazine MAKE will have a release party for it's 11th issue on Friday October 28th. The issue's theme "Neither/Nor" will include readings from contributors, an animation installation, DJ, guest emcees, candy and beverages galore. The event kicks off at 7pm, Rational Park, 2557 W.
