SOFA Chicago & Intuit Show of Folk & Outsider Art

The 18th annual SOFA Chicago and the Intuit Show of Folk & Outsider Art occur side by side in Navy Pier's Festival Hall Friday through Sunday, Nov. 4-6. View sculptures, objects and functional art from galleries around the world, as well as outsider art from a number of galleries and dealers. The exhibitions will be open from noon to 6pm today. Tickets are $15 per day or $25 for a three-day pass, available online or at the door.

Kranky Records on Tour @ Lincoln Hall

Battle of the Bhut @ Jake Melnick's

Jake Melnick's Corner Tap, 41 E. Superior St., hosts "The Battle of the Bhut," a competitive eating competition featuring hot wings made with ultrahot habanero and the bhut jolokia chilis, today at 1pm. First prize is $1,000.

America: Now and Here @ 30 East Cedar Street

America: Now and Here, a national project connecting artists and social issues, has its second Chicago event. Artists and expert presenters include Eric Fischl, Michelle Boone, Dawoud Bey, Jan Tichy and Erika Hanner. Eyeworks Festival of Animation

The Eyeworks Festival of Animation runs Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5 & 6, in DePaul University's CDM Theater, 247 S. State St., basement level. Program three begins today at 1pm; program four begins at 3:30pm. Each features animation by 10 artists. Tickets for each program are $6 online or at the door.

Nerds at Heart @ Frontier

Nerds at Heart, the dating event series for smart singles both queer and straight, celebrates its fifth anniversary at The Frontier, 1072 N. Milwaukee Ave., tonight from 4pm to 7pm. Admission is $20, which includes one cocktail. Register here.

BMX BBQ Jam

The Bicycle Film Festival hosts a barbecue and bike jam at the Logan Square Skatepark, on Logan Boulevard under the expressway, today from 2pm to 5pm. BMX, fixed gear freestyle and flatland contests will abound, and there will be vegetarian fare by River Valley Kitchens. Details here.

Poems While You Wait @ Dose Market

Dave Landsberger, Eric Plattner, and Kathleen Rooney are once again taking part in Poems While You Wait. They will be composing poems on demand via vintage typewriter at Dose Market (River East Art Center, 435 East Illinois St), today from 10am-4pm. For $5 (or whatever you have in your pocket--lint not accepted) you can command them to write on any topic you'd like. Proceeds will go to independent publisher Rose Metal Press.
