Bleeding Heart Bakery presents Sideshow, an evening of bands, burlesque and baked goods tonight at Cobra Lounge, 235 N. Ashland Ave. The Fisticuffs, The Horrors, Tracer Bullet, Turbo Vamps, Cellar Rats and Nikki Lynette make up the musical talent, and Sultry Susan, Tit Perkins, Paris Green, Rosie Maybe and Karma Kaze comprise the burlesque talent. FCS Sound System DJs spin as well. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm. $10 in advance or at the door. 21+
The Gene Siskel Film Center begins a weeklong run of This Is Not A Film, the 2011 non-film featuring Iranian director Jafar Panahi, under house arrest and forbidden from making films, outlining the details of the project that he would be working on, if he were allowed to make films. Chicago kraut/punk/garage rockers Disappears kick off a US tour in support of their latest album, Pre Language, at Lincoln Hall. Kranky labelmate and Deerhunter side project Lotus Plaza opens. The show starts at 10PM, is 18+ and $12 in advance, $14 at the door. (But I wouldn't bank on being able to walk up for tickets.) Lincoln Hall's at 2424 N Lincoln.
CIMMfest, the Chicago International Movies & Music Festival, runs April 12-15 with performances and screenings in several locations. See the schedule for full details on today's lineup. Tickets for festival events range from $7 to $25, or get a four-day pass for $60.
C2E2, the Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo, runs April 13-15 in the North Building at McCormick Place, 2301 S. Lake Shore Dr. Browse the show floor, hit panel discussions and get autographs from your favorite comic book artists, authors, and film and TV stars. The expo is open to the public from 1pm to 7pm today. Tickets are $25 for a one-day pass, $50 for a weekend pass in advance, $35 and $65 at the door.
This month's edition of Urban Sandbox is out to make you laugh. Hosted by Dan "Sully" Sullivan, April's installment of the monthly performance series will feature comedian Cameron Esposito as well as a preview of the "Ten x Ten Project" featuring Defcee, Animate Objects, Tomorrow Kings & more. It all goes down tonight starting at 8pm (doors at 7:30) at Comfort Station, 2579 N. Milwaukee Ave. $5. All ages. Open mic sign-up at the door.
