Rock the Doc @ The Whistler

Kartemquin Films hosts "Rock the Doc — Tunes & Trivia" at The Whistler, 2421 N. Milwaukee Ave., tonight starting at 7:30pm. Play trivia -- $15 per team of six, or $4 per person -- for the chance to win prizes, and enjoy records spun by DJ Zak Piper while you sip cocktails. Night Lab: The Science of Smell

Science is Sexy presents Night Lab: The Science of Smell, a free talk with Dr. Alan Hirsch, director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, tonight from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave. Dr. Hirsch will share research on smell and taste, illuminating how our sense of smell influences human emotion, mood, behavior, diseases states, consumer preferences and weight loss. Attendees will get do their own experiments as well, smelling and tasting their way through the evening. Free. 21+

Yvonne Rainer @ Gene Siskel Film Center

Tonight at 6pm, the Society for Contemporary Art, in conjunction with the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St., presents a screening of Yvonne Rainer's Lives of Performers, her first feature film that centers on issues of "power and gender" and how they both influence and impact the lives of performance artists; Q&A hosted by Rainer follows the film. Architecture & Design Film Festival Opening Night

The Architecture & Design Film Festival opens the five-day event at 6pm with the Chicago premieres of feature-length film Mendelsohn's Incessant Visions and short film, South Pond. Then at 8pm, there's a screening of Unfinished Spaces, and a Q&A with filmmaker Ben Murray. The festival is being held at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave. Tickets can be purchased online from the ADFF website or in person at the box office.

Chicago International Movies & Music Festival

CIMMfest, the Chicago International Movies & Music Festival, runs April 12-15 with performances and screenings in several locations. The headline event tonight is the documentary I Want My Name Back, about the rise and fall of the Sugarhill Gang, plus a performance by Kids These Days and Rapper's Delight featuring Sugarhill Gang founding members Wonder Mike and Master Gee. Company Flow @ Metro

Influential 90s hip-hop group Company Flow are back together for a few shows, including their first Chicago date ever tonight, as they head out west to play Coachella. Check out our preview of the show in Transmission. Tickets are $25 dollars in advance, $28 dollars day of the show. Doors open at 8pm, and the show starts at 9pm. The Metro is located at 3730 N. Clark St.

Spring Express Cooking Class @ World Kitchen

Learn to cook with what is coming up in your garden (rhubarb, asparagus, etc.) tonight at the Spring Express cooking class, which will be held at the World Kitchen, 66 E Randolph, 6-8pm. Admission $30; registration required.

Academy For Global Citizenship Benefit @ Hideout

Virtue Cider, Greg Hall's new hard cider company, debuts its first product, Red Streak, at a benefit for the Academy for Global Citizenship tonight at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., starting at 7pm. In addition to Red Streak cider, there will be food from Belly Shack, GT Fish & Oyster, Lula Cafe, Hot Chocolate, Publican Quality Meats, Sunday Dinner Club, Trencherman and Yusho. The Waco Brothers and The Blisters (Spencer Tweedy's band) perform. Tickets are $50.
