A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a grand and lively celebration across Chicago. An annual festival and parade to commemorate Mexican heritage and the freedom and independence fought for during first years of the American Civil War, Cinco de Mayo inspires spirited celebrations throughout the city. One of them starts today at the Douglas Park Cultural and Community Center, 1401 S. Sacramento Dr., and continues tomorrow and Sunday, when it doubles as the end point of the Cinco de Mayo Parade. Inkling brings back Nice-One for a month-long residency at this Lakeview gift and local craft store. Nice-One will bring to Inkling "The CTA Experience" a journey to the end of the line on every line; a collection of paintings, photographs, mix media inspired by riding on Chicago's CTA. The entire gallery wall will be covered in a mural, the artwork for sale will be incorporated over it.Opening reception is tonight from 6-10pm at Inkling, located at 2917 1/2 N.
