HoZac Records' annual Blackout Fest music festival happens at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., all weekend long. Tonight's lineup features Roky Erickson, Human Eye, Estrogen Highs, Bare Mutants and Medication. Doors open at 5pm. Tickets are $25 online or at the door but the show is sold out. 21+.
Reggie's Rock Club, 2109 S. State St., hosts the Chicago Battle of the Bands at 3pm today. Watch Manny Duke, The Leather Sauls, Answer for an Arrow, Saint Tragedy, South of Sorrow, Lian Paranoia, 95th Street Band, Silent Redemption, Ephemeral Sunrise, New Oceans and In the Winter battle it out for rock supremacy. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. All ages.
Big Shoulders Realty and Chicago Velo lead a bike tour of Portage Park today starting at 11am at the actual Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Ave. Learn about the neighborhood while enjoying a leisurely ride. Tickets are $9 online or $10 in person.

Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry and the Mellon Residential Fellowship Program for Arts Practice and Scholarship present the Comics Philosophy & Practice Conference at The University of Chicago's Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St., May 18-20.
