Amateur sausage makers will unite and fight for pork supremacy today at this event, which is looking for competitors and an audience. Can you make sausage? Celebrate summer and all the food that defines it at this barbecue, which is a benefit for members of Slow Food Chicago to attend the Tierra Madre conference in Italy later this year. Chefs from Three Aces, Sable Kitchen + Bar, and Green Zebra (among others) will be cooking sides for the pork, which will be provided by Slagel Farms. Vegetarians will have their own fare, too. Today's the last day of one of the Midwest's largest literary festivals, taking place in Printers Row in the South Loop. You'll find tons of books for sale (old, new, rare; you name it, they got it), author readings, panel discussions, and much more. They even have special events just for kids. The Vintage Bazaar fills the Aragon Ballroom, 1106 W. Lawrence Ave., from noon to 5pm today. Browse more than 200 vendors of vintage decor, housewares, furniture, clothing, jewelry and accessories. CHIRP Radio deejays, and local restaurants serve food, beer and cocktails. There will also be free historical tours of the Aragon, conducted by local history buff Albert Walavich, hourly between 1pm and 5pm. Admission to the bazaar is $5, free for children under 12.
The Chicago Blues Festival runs Jun 8-10 in Grant Park, showcasing dozens of bands on five stages. Today's lineup includes Lil' Ed & the Blues Imperials, Patrice Moncel, Lurrie Bell, Moonlighters, a tribute to Koko Taylor and other women in the blues, and Mavis Staples; see the full schedule here. The music starts at 11am and runs till 9pm. Free.
The Latino based dance troupe closes it run of "Luna Neva" running at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The show features three new premieres and takes on a more "avant-garde" approach to dance, according to artistic director Ramirez Sansano. Show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $28 and $10 for students.
