The yearly three day music festival showcases a roster of well known and under the radar indie acts. Headliners this year include Vampire Weekend, Feist, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Other standout acts include Sleigh Bells, Grimes, Danny Brown, and local outfits A Lull, Outer Minds, and Atlas Moth.
Limited number of tickets are available at the box office at the gate. Three day passes are sold out. Pitchfork Festival is located at Union Park, right off Lake and Ashland. The gates open Friday at 3pm and Saturday and Sunday at noon.
BenFest, one of the city's longest-running family-oriented neighborhood festivals, runs today and Saturday at St. Benedict's Church, 2215 W Irving Park Rd. Enjoy food, music, entertainment and a three-on-three basketball tournament. There's also a raffle for $10,000. Admission is $5 for kids (2 and under are free) and $7 for adults before 8pm, $10 after. The festival runs from 4pm to 11pm today.
I don't get it, but if you love ribs and the opportunity to eat them at Lawrence and Broadway all weekend, get your buns to the Windy City RibFest, which runs today (5-10pm), Saturday (noon-10pm) and Sunday (noon-9pm). Entertainment and all the street fest trimmings included.
Head over to Grant Park's Petrillo Music Shell, 235 S. Columbus Dr., at 5:30pm for a free performance by Michael Franti & Spearhead and Fitz & The Tantrums. Read our preview in Transmission.
It's the second Friday of the month, which means galleries and studios in the Chicago Arts District (aka East Pilsen, centered on Halsted & 18th streets) are open from 6pm to 10pm tonight. Free. Details here.
The third annual Windy City Burlesque Fest is at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave., tonight and Saturday, with three different performances at 8pm, 10pm and midnight each night. See performers from around the world, including Jo Boobs (New York), Kristina Nekyia (LA), Coco Lectric (Austin), Tiffany Carter (Las Vegas), Penny Starr, Jr. (Hollywood), Kitten De Ville (LA), Foxy Tann (Minneapolis) and Chicago's Stage Door Johnnies. Tickets are $30 for each performance; $150 gets you a pass for all six.
Unknown Hinson, Creepy Band and Jayke Orvis & The Broken Band play a special Friday the 13th show at Reggie's Rock Club, 2109 S. State St., tonight at 8:30pm. Tickets are $15. 17+
Hannibal Burress headlines a Pitchfork aftershow tonight at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave., along with Kyle Kinane, Rockie Fresh, Jel, Serengeti and DJ Tony Trimm. Doors are at 10:30pm. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. A limited number of $15 tickets will be available for folks with a Pitchfork wristband. 18+
