Pitchfork Music Festival @ Union Park

The yearly three day music festival showcases a roster of well known and under the radar indie acts. Headliners this year include Vampire Weekend, Feist, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Other standout acts include Sleigh Bells, Grimes, Danny Brown, and local outfits A Lull, Outer Minds, and Atlas Moth.

Limited number of tickets are available at the box office at the gate. Three day passes are sold out. Pitchfork Festival is located at Union Park, right off Lake and Ashland. The gates open Friday at 3pm and Saturday and Sunday at noon.

Windy City RibFest

I don't get it, but if you love ribs and want the opportunity to eat them at Lawrence and Broadway, get your buns to the Windy City RibFest, which runs Friday (5-10pm), Saturday (noon-10pm) and today (noon-9pm). Entertainment and all the street fest trimmings included.

Like a Secondhand Sea

A gigantic cast of characters (including Jon Langford, Sally Timms, Water Reclamation District Commissioner Debra Shore and WBEZ's Allison Cuddy) perform a three-part Historical Reenactment that tells the story of "how human contact has altered Lake Michigan and the Chicago River." Event takes place in a few different places: 11am at Chicago and Fairbanks for a small play about Marquette and Joliet; a play about the origins of Streeterville from noon to 2pm at the park space located across the street from 435 E. Illinois Ave. Free bowler hats, tintype pictures, Streeterville Currency, and squirt guns (limited supply); and a river reversal rededication ceremony at 2pm at Centennial Fountain, East River Drive and McClurg Ct. All events are free.

Bookstore Bike Crawl

Today starting at 1pm at Heritage Bicycles, 2959 N. Lincoln Ave., go on a bookstore crawl by bike. The crawl will take you to Powell's North (2850 N. Lincoln Ave.), Bookworks (3444 N. Clark St.), Unabridged (3251 N. Broadway), Quimby's 1852 W. North Ave.) and Open Books 213 W. Institute Pl.), and ends at Powell's University Village, 1218 S. Halsted St., at 7pm, where where there will be a reception for a bikes and books art show featuring work by Kyle Baker, Todd Irwin, Deborah Maris-Lader, Jay Ryan, Maria Sanchez, Shawn Stuckey, Michael Una and Julia Victor. Free; RSVP on Facebook.

Lindi Ortega and Dierks Bentley @ The Taste

Head over to Grant Park's Petrillo Music Shell, 235 S. Columbus Dr., at 5:30pm for a free concert from Lindi Ortega and Dierks Bentley. Read our preview in Transmission.

Olivia Tremor Control @ Reggie's

Pitchfork and Fernet Branca present Olivia Tremor Control performing at Reggie's Rock Club, 2109 S. State St., tonight at 8pm, with Daughn Gibson and another act TBA opening. Tickets are $5 at the door, or free if you show proof that you "like" Fernet Branca on Facebook. 21+

Thee Oh Sees @ Empty Bottle

San Francisco's noise/garage rockers Thee Oh Sees headline a Pitchfork Music Festival aftershow at the Empty Bottle. The band's been busy lately with two 2011 albums, Castlemania and Carrion Crawler/The Dream, and the upcoming Putrifiers II, along with serious touring. Their frenzied live shows aren't the kind to miss. The Blind Shake, Terrible Twos and the Mallard open at 9PM. The show's 21+ and $12. The Empty Bottle's at 1035 N Western.
