Newberry Book Fair

The 28th annual Newberry Book Fair runs July 26-29 at the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St. Browse more that 120,000 used books for sale, most for under $2. Admission is free. The fair runs from noon to 8pm today.

Refused @ Congress

You've heard "New Noise" in "Friday Night Lights" and the first season of "24", but there's a lot more to Refused than one song. Their groundbreaking The Shape of Punk to Come album isn't an entirely inaccurate title, seeing as how it's revered and its influence is ubiquitous. The Swedish punk rock band has reunited in 2012 for a few shows and they'll cap off a brief US tour at the Congress, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave. Expect bedlam. Hardcore supergroup OFF! opens. The show's all ages, $29.50 and doors are at 6:30pm.

Sundown in K-Town @ ICE Theatres

The Better Boys Foundation and Facets Multimedia screen the new documentary 50 Years@1512: A History of Better Boys Foundation ICE Theatres, 3330 W. Roosevelt Rd., tonight at 7pm as the culmination of the Sundown in K-Town Film Festival. After the film, Mary Visconti, CEO of the Better Boys Foundation, Jack Kellman is the Better Boys Foundation board president, Warren Cockerham, director of the film, and BBF YouthLAB filmmakers will participate in a Q&A. Free; donations accepted.

From the Ground Up Benefit @ Metro

The Common Ground Foundation and Virgin Mobile present From the Ground Up, a benefit concert for homeless youth, tonight at Metro, 3730 N. Clark St. Common headlines. Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $20, available online or in select Virgin Mobile stores. 18+

Scotland Yard Gospel Choir @ The Empty Bottle

The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir plays at the Empty Bottle tonight along with Cloudbirds and Angelina Luceroas as part of Curbside Splendor's Words & Music event featuring readings by Patrick Somerville and Jac Jemc. Tickets are free with reservation, visit Facebook for more information. Show starts at 9pm at the Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western Avenue.)
