Newberry Book Fair

The 28th annual Newberry Book Fair runs July 26-29 at the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St. Browse more that 120,000 used books for sale, most for under $2. Admission is free. The fair runs from noon to 8pm today.

Metrospective Design Industry Panel

Designers from Delicious Design League, Crosshair and Someoddpilot discuss concert poster design and other topics at Metrospective, the Metro's pop-up 30th anniversary exhibition in the Inland Steel Building, 77 S. Dearborn St., from 3pm to 5pm today. Free.

Bike to the Beach Bash

Bike to the Beach Bash takes place today from 4pm to 10pm at The Dock at Montrose Beach, 200 W. Montrose Harbor Dr. Ra-Ra Riot, Bestfriends and California Wives perform. There will be a bike valet; more details on Facebook. Tickets are $20, $35 for VIP. Proceeds benefit Intuit and Blackstone Bicycle Works.

Underwear Mass

Chicago Critical Mass sheds its clothes tonight for The Underwear Mass in support of positive body image and gender equality. Meet at Daley Plaza at 5pm and ride in your skivvies to a dance party at 8pm (location to be revealed at the ride) where Danny Livewire and Plus Plus will DJ. $5 donation suggested, with proceeds going to support Slutwalk Chicago this fall.

The Bloomingdale Exhibition Opening @ Comfort Station

David Schalliol is exhibiting photographs from his project about The Bloomingdale, a near northwest side former rail line that is being converted into a park and trail. The opening is from 7pm-10pm at the Comfort Station, 2579 N. Milwaukee Ave. The exhibition runs from July 20-August 26.

Future Shorts Film Festival @ Transistor

Transistor, 3819 N. Lincoln Ave., hosts the Future Shorts pop-up film festival tonight at 7:30pm. Here's the program. Free.

The Silent Film Society of Chicago Presents: The Kid Brother

The 2012 Silent Summer Film Festival continues tonight with a screening of a 35mm print from the Harold Lloyd Estate of the 1927 film The Kid Brother, starring Harold Lloyd and Jobyna Ralston, directed by Ted Wilde. Film starts at 8pm. Live organ accompaniment by Tim Baker and pre-show music at 7:30 with John Michaels & Seven Ships. Tickets are $7.50 in advance, $12 at the door. A Dog's Day Rescue Benefit @ The Burlington

The Burlington, 3425 W. Fullerton Ave., hosts a benefit concert tonight for A Dog's Day rescue center. Sweet Cobra, The Swan King and Electric Hawk perform, and there will be a raffle and other giveaways too. Doors open at 9pm. $7 admission, 21+.

Gogo & Josh Deep @ Danny's

Chicago DJs Gogo and Josh Deep join forces for another Friday installment of their monthly GO, GO DEEP session featuring boogie, disco and afro tonight at Danny's, 1951 W. Dickens Ave., from 10pm to 2am. There's no cover, but early arrival is suggested as this monthly showcase typically commands a lengthy line at the door. 21+
