South Shore Summer Festival @ 73rd Street

The South Shore Chamber, Inc. presents "South Shore Summer Festival," today from 10am-8pm. This free and family-friendly neighborhood festival will be held on East 73rd Street, between Stony Island and Jeffrey Blvd., and will feature live entertainment with performances by the South Shore Drill Team and music by legendary soul/R&B acts including Cuba Gooding, Sr. and The Main Ingredient, Ray, Goodman & Brown, The Delfonics, and more. Chicago SandCastle Open

Edgewater's second annual Chicago SandCastle Open begins today at 10am and runs till 3pm at Osterman Beach, 5800 N. Sheridan Rd. There are categories for adults and children, with the overall winner receiving $500. Registration to compete is $25; attendance is free.

Chicago Air & Water Show

The Chicago Air & Water Show runs today and Sunday on the lake and in the air (of course), with the action centered on North Avenue Beach. The show runs from 10am to 3pm both days; see the schedule for specific programming. Free.

Fork and the Road: Cure-ious Tour

Fork and the Road food tours by bike embarks on A Cure-ious Tour today, exploring the city's sausages, forcemeats and charcuterie. The 17-mile tour pushes off from the Kitchen Sink Cafe, 1107 W. Berwyn Ave., at 11am, and ends back there at 4pm. Tickets are $60.

Chicago Westside Music Festival @ Garfield Park

The Chicago Park District presents the Chicago Westside Music Festival today at 12pm. Held at Garfield Park, 100 N. Central Park Ave., this free, all-day festival, the last of a three-part series, features performances by Chicago-area natives and singers Carl Thomas and Grammy-award nominated Syleena Johnson, local jazz band Zzaje, hip-hop tap dance sensation M.A.D.D. Mad Decent Block Party

Puma's Mad Decent Block Party rolls into town today, running from noon to 10pm on Fulton Street between Ashland and Justine. Admission is free, but you must RSVP on Facebook.

Glenwood Avenue Arts Festival

The Glenwood Avenue Arts Festival runs Aug. 17-19 on Morse Avenue and Glenwood Avenue, with music, theater, art and food from around Rogers Park and the city. The festival runs from noon to 9pm today. Free; donations accepted.

Chicago Korean Festival

The Chicago Korean Festival runs today and Sunday on Bryn Mawr Avenue between Kedzie and Kimball. The festival features a variety of traditional and contemporary Korean sports, singing competitions, musical acts and more. The action begins at noon today; see the program for event times.

Beyond the Myth: a Story of Breed Discrimination in America @ Instituto Cervantes

One Tail at a Time animal rescue hosts a screening of Beyond the Myth, a documentary about the stigma and reality of pit bulls. By the end, you'll want your own! Fifty the two-legged pit bull will be on hand for pictures and chin-scratches. Event runs 6-9pm at Instituto Cervantes, 31 W. Ohio Ave. Tickets $10.

Neutron Bomb Reading Series Finale

The punk rock reading series Neutron Bomb is calling it quits. For their finale the lineup features readings by teacher by day zinester by night Jim Joyce (of "Or Let It Sink" zine), Columbia graduate student Dan Terrill writer for Guns.com, comedy by James Cardis and music by Krayola (featuring a reprise of Jim Joyce this time on guitar and vox).

The last bomb drops Saturday August 18 at Cal's Bar 400 S. Wells. at 7pm.

Mucca Pazza @ Bottom Lounge

Mucca Pazza play another record release party at Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., tonight, with the Occidental Brothers Brass Band opening. Tickets are $15. Doors open at 10:30pm, show's at 11pm. 17+

Facets Night School: Pulgasari

Facets Cinematheque continues its summer session of Facets Night School, a series of midnight screenings paired with lectures and conversations about cult films. Tonight's film is a 1985 film from North Korea, Pulgasari. Tonight's lecturer is Night School regular Chris Damen. Facets Night School runs through August 25.
