Publican Fall Food Drive Kicks Off

The Publican kicks off the Fall season with a food drive to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository starting today and running through Sept. 23. In return, donors receive a free drink ticket. Now that's sweet charity.


Essay Fiesta @ The Book Cellar

This month's Essay Fiesta lineup includes: WBEZ personality and The Moth host Don Hall; author of Young Mr. Obama Edward McClelland; star of Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche Thea Lux; host of Off the Eatin' Path Monte LaMonte; and Gapers Block contributor Nellie Huggins. As always, co-hosts Alyson Lyon and Keith Ecker will bring the fiesta. The show includes a raffle with all proceeds going to the youth literacy organization 826 Chicago. Starts at 7pm at the Book Cellar (4736 N. Lincoln), and is free, but get there early - this show goes from plenty of seating to standing room only in a jiffy. David Byrne @ The Music Box

Grab a seat tonight at The Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., for Chicago Tribune's feature Press Pass event: Greg Kot with David Byrne and Bettina Richards: "Stay Free! How to Survive in the Indie World." The three will be discussing Byrne's new book, How Music Works. Doors open at 6pm, show begins at 7pm. Tickets are $20.

The Moth GrandSLAM at the Park West

The Moth GrandSLAM is tonight at the Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave. Watch 10 Chicago StorySLAM champions battle it out with the theme "Fall from Grace" for title of The Moth GrandSLAM Champion. Brian Babylon hosts. Tickets are $17 online, or in-person at the door. Doors open at 6pm, show's at 8pm

Chicago I Love You @ Lilly's

The Chicago, I Love You festival continues at Lilly's, 2515 N. Lincoln Ave., with music by Todd Tue and Come to Light. Free, 21+

Maxïmo Park @ Lincoln Hall

Maxïmo Park's now on their fourth album, The National Health, of bouncy British rock music with a political angle. They return to the U.S. for the first time in years and no doubt will have their best for Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave. The show's 18+, $15 and starts at 8pm.
