Expo Chicago

Expo Chicago, a new exhibition of modern and contemporary art and design, runs Sept. 20-23 in Festival Hall on Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave. View works by hundreds of artists represented by 120 of the world's top galleries. Tickets are $20, or $65 for a four-day pass. The exhibition is open from 11am to 7pm today.

Chicago South Asian Film Festival

The Chicago South Asian Film Festival runs Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 20-23. The festival will screen two dozen films from India and Pakistan -- as well as a couple panel discussions -- at the Showcase Icon Theater, 150 W. Roosevelt Rd., and Columbia College's Film Row Cinema, 1104 S. Wabash Ave. Tickets to most individual screenings are $15, single-day passes are $35 and full festival passes are $125. Vertigo @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a screening of the Alfred Hitchcock film Vertigo, recently voted as the best film of all time by Sight & Sound. Come see what all the fuss is about this evening at 6pm. If you can't make the screening, Vertigo will also be screened on Tuesday the 25th at 6pm. Film Center: 164 North State Street. Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements

Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements runs Friday through Sunday, Sept. 21-23, at the Riverfront Theater, 650 W. Chicago Ave. Tonight's lineup includes Zola Jesus, John Cale and a late-night comedy show with Seaton Smith, The Puterbaugh Sisters, James Fritz and Brandon Wetherbee. Tickets for tonight's performance are $25. Doors open at 6pm show starts at 7pm.

Brink of Survival @ Chicago Cultural Center

The Chicago Cultural Center presents a free screening of the new documentary Brink of Survival, about a small hospital in Malawi that serves a community of 120,000 people. The screening happens this evening at 6:30pm in the Claudia Cassidy Theater in the Cultural Center, followed by a discussion with Salome Chasnoff, the director of the film, and Dr. Martha Sommers, the doctor featured in the film. CCLaP's "Podcast Dreadful"@ Quimby's

Quimby's, 1854 W. North Ave., hosts a live-audience installment of the Chicago Center for Literature and Photography's "Podcast Dreadful" serial literary anthology tonight at 7pm. The performance will feature not only readings from local authors Davis Schneiderman, Jacob Knabb, Jason Fisk and CCLaP founder Jason Pettus, augmented by live radio-style sound effects. Complementary refreshments will be served. Free.

Superstars of Burlesque @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., presents an evening of burlesque tonight at 7:30pm and 10pm. Both shows will feature Burlesque Hall of Famers Michelle L'amour, Imogen Kelly, Dirty Martini and many more. The Monologues of My Nappy Hair @ Portage Theater

The Anita Davis Dance Theater presents The Monologues of My Nappy Hair tonight at 8pm. This multi-character "dance drama" highlights the history of hair as it relates to the culture and image of African-American women. The performance takes place at Portage Theater, 4050 N.
