Dress Code at Fashion Focus Chicago
Dress Code is a student runway show that is part of Chicago's annual Fashion Focus week. The show takes place in the Sidney R. Yates Gallery on the 4th Floor of the Chicago Cultural Center on 78 E. Washington St. The show is free, but tickets are required.
Essay Fiesta @ The Book Cellar
This month's Essay Fiesta lineup includes: Nationally acclaimed slam poet Roger Bonair-Agard; Moth GrandSlam champion Shannon Cason; Playwright Barrie Cole; Neo-Futurist Malic White; and Comedian Mary Pat Bohan. As always, co-hosts Alyson Lyon and Keith Ecker will bring the fiesta. The show includes a raffle with all proceeds going to the youth literacy organization 826 Chicago. Calexico @ Lincoln Hall
The band Calexico takes its name from Calexico, California, a small town along the U.S.-Mexico border, which gives away this band's blend of alt-rock and south-of-the-border balladry. But over the course of 10 studio albums and EPs, the band has used that hybrid of sounds more as a platform to delve into post-rock, jazz, and folk — yet always maintaining the Southwestern feel at its core. The band hits Lincoln Hall tonight at 8pm in support of its latest album Algiers — this one named for the New Orleans neighborhood where it was recorded. The show is 21+, and tickets are $25.
