Ivan Brunetti @ Energy BBDO

Energy BBDO, 410 N. Michigan Ave., hosts a Creative Salon event with cartoonist and comics scholar Ivan Brunetti today from 4 to 6pm. Brunetti will talk about his influences and evolution as an artist, and preview his upcoming book, Aesthetics: A Memoir. The event is part of the Big Draw Chicago festival, and is free.

Brian Ulrich Lecture @ MoCP

As part of the Filter Photo Festival, photographer Brian Ulrich delivers a lecture at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, 600 S. Michigan Ave., tonight from 7:30 to 9pm in connection with of an exhibition of his work. A cocktail reception precedes the lecture starting at 6pm. Rockers & Magical Beautiful @ Hideout

Tonight at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., watch the cult classic 1978 reggae film Rockers, followed by a live performance by Magical Beautiful. Doors are at 6pm; film starts at 7pm. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. 21+

Converge, Torche, Kvelertak @ Metro

There are many ways to describe Converge's music, but "heavy" usually does the trick for the band that's continually upping the ante in the hardcore and metal scenes that they fit into. They're on tour in support of their new album, All We Love We Leave Behind. Miami's stoner/metal band Torche open, as does Norway's ultra-catchy Kvelertak. Converge headlines Metro. The show's all ages, $16 in advance, $18 at the door and starts at 6PM. Metro's at 3730 N Clark.

Live Band Karaoke @ Subterranean

The Association House of Chicago hosts a special edition of Live Band Karaoke tonight at Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave. Singer Leslie Beukelman emcees, and comedian Nate Burrows will entertain between sets. Tickets are $15 in advance or at the door; proceeds will go directly to starting an emergency fund for Association House's child welfare program. Doors open at 7:30pm, singing starts at 8pm. 21+
