Halloween Havoc 5 @ Portage Theater

The Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave., hosts Halloween Havoc 5, a five-day horror film festival Oct. 28-Nov. 1. Starting at 6:30pm today, watch Frankenstein vs. Wolfman, Young Frankenstein and Jeepers Creepers. A vintage toy and collectible fair will be in the lobby, and a Halloween costume contest for both adults and children will be held at 8pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids.

Halloween on Halsted

Celebrate the most creative holiday of the year in one of Chicago's most colorful neighborhoods. The 16th annual Northalsted Halloween Parade kicks off at 7pm on Halsted St., traveling from Waveland to Belmont. The theme this year is "Apocalypse 2012."

CitySwarm Truck or Treat

CitySwarm hosts Truck or Treat, a Halloween-themed food truck event, tonight at 7pm in Wrightwood Park, 2534 N. Greenview Ave. Babycakes, Curried, Samichbox, Bergstein's NY Deli and Tamalie Foodie will offer one savory dish emblematic of the truck, and also serve a sweet treat made special for the event. At 8:30pm head over to The Crossing, 2548 N. Southport Ave., for a pint of Blue Moon Pumpkin beer and other drink specials. Tickets are $25 early bird, $30 regular price.

Halloween Cosmic Bowling Bash @ Diversey Rock n Bowl

Come to the Rock For Kids Halloween Cosmic Bowling Bash and have a spooky time on the lanes, while raising funds for children’s music education! Tickets for open bowling from 8-10pm cost $20 in advance/$25 at the door. Tickets include two hours of unlimited bowling, shoe rental, pizza and a pitcher of beer per lane. There will also be DJs and a costume competition, so come freaky, funny, and scary! Proceeds benefit Rock for Kids, who provide music education to at risk kids in Chicago. Diversey Rock n' Bowl is located at 2211 W. Diversey Parkway.

The Whisperer in Darkness @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center 164 N. State St., presents a screening of The Whisperer in Darkness, an adaptation of the HP Lovecraft film done in the style of classic 1930s monster movies. Beats Antique @ Park West

Experimental trio Beats Antique brings their special blend of world fusion and electronic music to Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave., tonight. Since they are well-known for their theatrical performances on stage, chances are they have something extra special up their sleeves for Halloween. Show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $25, 18+

Rebirth Brass Band @ Cubby Bear

New Orleans' Rebirth Brass Band plays the Cubby Bear, 1059 W. Addison St., tonight. Doors open at 9pm. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door. 21+
