Deb Perelman @ The Book Cellar

Renowned food blogger Deb Perelman will be at The Book Cellar (4736 North Lincoln Avenue) today from 3-4:30pm for an informal meet and greet. She will also be signing copies of her debut, The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, which of course, features recipes from her food blog of the same name.

"Poverty, Power and the Public Airwaves" @ Northwestern Law School

Northwestern Law School's Downtown Campus, 375 E. Chicago Ave., hosts "Poverty, Power and the Public Airwaves: Post Election Analysis and Commentary from Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, and Amy Goodman," from 7pm to 9pm tonight. Held in the school's Thorne Auditorium, this town hall event, co-hosted by Smiley and West, will focus on the post-presidential election, politics, and the role of broadcast media in democracy. Hurricane Sandy Benefit @ Laugh Factory

The Laugh Factory, 3175 N. Broadway, hosts an all-star standup comedy show benefiting Hurricane Sandy victims tonight at 8pm. WGN's Pat Tomasulo hosts, with J. Chris Newberg of "America's Got Talent," Mike Lebovitz, Russ Williamson and more performing. To get in, donate a minimum of $25 and/or donate supplies such as blankets, canned food and heaters. The Laugh Factory will accept donations starting at 2pm. All proceeds of ticket sales will go to the American Red Cross. Call 773-327-3175x1 for more information. 18+, two drink minimum.

CAVE, Tyvek, Running @ Hideout

If you like psychedelic garage rock and haven't heard Chicago's CAVE, you need to remedy that. The band's been tearing it up for years and only getting better as they hone their style. Tyvek and Running are no slouches either. CAVE headlines the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave. Tickets are $10. The show's 21+ and starts at 9pm.

LeFtO @ the Whistler

Chicago-based cuerators.com presents LeFtO, Shred One, D-Moon and King Hippo for 'Get Some!' at the Whistler, 2421 N. Milwaukee Ave. Last year Gilles Peterson crowned LeFtO as "the best DJ in the world" (an honor shared with former-Chicagoan Jeremy Sole). The Belgian DJ/Producer is widely regarded as one of Europe's most important taste-makers. The show is 21+, free and starts at 9:30 pm.
