Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Chicago's 99th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony kicks off the official holiday season in Daley Plaza tonight. Live performances and festive music begin at 4:30pm, and the tree is illuminated at 5pm. Free, all ages.

Write Club @ Hideout

The first rule of Write Club is that three sets of two writers create stories about opposing concepts, and then read them. The second rule of Write Club is that the audience picks the winners. The third rule of Write Club is that it's at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., at 7pm. The fourth rule of Write Club is that it costs $10 and you have to be 21 to get in. More details here.

Will You Stand Up? @ Center on Halsted

Erasing the Distance presents Will You Stand Up?, a performance of five true stories exploring the connection between violence and mental health, at 7:30pm tonight in the Hoover-Leppen Theatre at Center On Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted Ave., 3rd Fl. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. The show will also be staged Nov. 12, 13 and 19.

Exit Ghost @ Double Door

Local country-rockers Exit Ghost will stop by Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee, opening for Canadian indie rockers Rah Rah. Frontman Evan Holmes has a proven knack for melody and pop songwriting, and brings tracks from the band's recent Move Alone to life with a three-guitar attack.Tickets are $7 at the door, $5 in advance online and are available here.
