This weekend are the 22nd annual Winter Solstice concerts are at Links Hall, 3435 N. Sheffield Ave., presented by Hamid Drake and Michael Zerang. Friday and Saturday's performances are sold out, but tickets remain for today's 6am performance (yes, 6 in the morning). A small number of tickets will also be available at the box office starting at 5:30am.
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, 220 S. Michigan Ave., performs "Welcome Yule!", a program of new and classic arrangements to suit the season, today at 1:30pm and 5:30pm. Tickets are $50 to $115.
Contemporary jazz trio The Bad Plus play a four-night stand at Jazz Showcase, 806 S. Plymouth Ct., Dec. 20-23. Shows are at 4, 8 and 10pm. Tickets are $25. 21+
As part of their celebration of Universal Pictures the Gene Siskel Film Center presents a screening of the 1948 film Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, also featuring the classic horror film monsters Dracula and the Wolf Man.
