WRITE CLUB Chapter 38, Conquest of Space takes place at SPACE (1245 Chicago Ave. in Evanston, two blocks from the Purple Line) tonight at 7pm. Described by the Chicago Reader as "The punchiest thing to hit literature since Hemingway," WRITE CLUB is: three bouts of two opposing writers working with two opposing ideas (assigned in advance). They each get 7 minutes to present their side, then the audience picks a winner. A cut of proceeds to charities of the winners' choosing. This month the battles are between Lindsay Muscato ("the quick") and JW Basilo ("the dead"), Erin Kahoa ("accept") and Joe Dempsey ("reject"), and host Ian Belknap ("whisper") and Susan Karp ("scream") Admission is $10, with a cut of the proceeds going to the charities of the winners' choice.
The Gene Siskel Film Center presents the 2012 documentary Beware of Mr. Baker, a film about the legendary rock drummer Ginger Baker.
