Half Acre Crits

Half Acre Cycling's fifth annual Gapers Block Crits run March 25-28 in Calumet Park, 9801 S. Ave. G. There are three races each day; on-site registration opens at 5pm, first race is at 6:10pm. Even if you're not racing, come down and cheer on the cyclists. More details on Facebook.

Bill Callahan @ The Garfield Park Conservatory, 5/6

Lo-fi luminary/folk-hero Bill Callahan will be appearing at the historic Garfield Conservatory on Monday, May 6, as part of a short spring series of performances that marks his first live return since touring on the back of 2011's excellent Apocalypse. Callahan will be playing material from that record, but listeners should be advised for a stray Mickey Newbury cover. Tickets $25, available here.

Poetry As Comedy @ Poetry Foundation

Tonight at 7pm, the Poetry Foundation (61 W. Superior St.) presents Poetry As Comedy. This being the Poetry Foundation, don't expect to hear drunkards sharing limericks scribbled on the el that day, but the classics. Under the direction of Second City founder Bernard Sahlins, a trio of actors will bring to life bring the works of W. H. Auden, John Updike and Dorothy Parker, among others. Free.

The Warriors @ Patio Theater

The Patio Theater, 3008 W. Irving Park Rd., screens a 35mm print of the 1971 cult classic The Warriors tonight at 7:30pm. Tickets are $7.
