The Reinvention of Vivian Maier @ Chicago History Museum

The Chicago History Museum hosts The Reinvention of Vivian Maier, an exploration of the evolving story surrounding the prolific late photographer. Investigative artist Pamela Bannos will examine the prominent role technology and social media has played in the emergence of Maier's work and shifting accounts of her biography, which has led to the public's mounting interest in "Viral Vivian." Reception is at 6pm; event starts at 7pm.

Chicago Latino Film Festival

The 29th annual Chicago Latino Film Festival, organized by the International Latino Cultural Center, runs April 11-25 at the AMC Loews Theatres 600, 600 N. Michigan Ave. Today's screenings begin at 6pm; see the schedule for full details. Tickets to each film are $11.

Edible Books Festival @ Columbia College

Columbia College's Center for Book and Paper Arts holds its 14th annual Edible Books Festival and Tea tonight from 6 to 8pm in the Columbia College Library, 624 S. Michigan Ave., 3rd Floor. View book-like sculptures made from edible materials reflecting the book or the selected theme (this year it's In the Time of the Butterflies, by Julia Alvarez). After awarding prizes for "Best of Show," "Most Likely to be Devoured," "Best Use of Pun," the entries will be consumed by the guests. Tea will of course also be served. Free.

Write Club @ Hideout

The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., hosts Write Club, the monthly literary boxing match where writers & performers take up opposing concepts. The bouts are judged by a panel of literary experts, and the winners get donations for their chosen charities. This month, it's Scott Whitehair (allow) vs. Jen Bosworth (deny), Bobby Biedrzycki (trash) vs. Jessica Palmer (treasure), and James Finn Garner (liquid) vs. Ian Belknap (solid). Solo in the 2nd City Reading Series: The Y Chromosome @ Beauty Bar

Solo in the 2nd City features stories of single, dating, sex, and the like in our fine city. This edition features an all male line up. Event begins at 7:30 PM with music by DJ Continental and readings begin at 8:00 PM. Featured readers include Big Rob, Michael Kosko, Shane Beers, J.W. Reese, and Jeff Ramone. The event is hosted by Solo in the 2nd City bloggers, Melinda McIntire and Carly Oishi. Event is free and charitable donations will be collected for the Chicago Women's Health Center. Event is 21+ at Beauty Bar Chicago, 1444 W. Chicago Avenue.
