99% Invisible @ Unity Temple

If you get all geeky about Design and Architecture (note the caps), then you likely listen to or should listen to the 99% Invisible podcast produced by Roman Mars. Either way (seriously subscribe if you haven't already), you're even more likely to get geekily happy going to Unity Temple, 875 Lake St. in Oak Park, to hear Mars tell stories about the "Built World" tonight at 7pm. Tickets are $12. There will be previously unheard audio played in the acoustically perfect room, so even if you have heard every episode, there will be something new for you.

Gilbert Hernandez @ Quimby's

Gilbert Hernandez, one-third of the Los Bros Hernandez trio of Love and Rockets fame, will be at Quimby's tonight. He'll be presenting his brand new graphic novel Marble Season, a semiautobiographical tale of growing up in suburban California in the '60s and the redemptive power of childhood storytelling. Quimby's, 1854 W. North Ave., 7pm.

Disappears @ Lincoln Hall

Chicago's Disappears kick off a short tour with a hometown show. Earlier this year, the band wrapped up recording on their 4th LP. A new EP with their new drummer dives deeper into the psychedelic/garage rock that they've been pummeling Chicago crowds with for years. Disappears headline Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave. Pinebender and the Cairo Gang open at 9pm. The show's 18+ and $14.

Pissed Jeans @ Empty Bottle

Pissed Jeans is noisy, aggressive and crude. The Allentown, PA-based hardcore band does nothing without it being full-on. Their albums, including 2013's Honeys, are an aural assault of screams, jackhammer-like guitars and brutal drums. Their shows are intense, occasionally violent and perfect for the chaotic hardcore that they champion. Pissed Jeans headline the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. Fake Limbs and Blizzard Babies open. The show's $12 in advance, $15 at the door, 21+ and starts at 9:30pm.
