But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is Talk Like Shakespeare Day, and Chicago Shakespeare Theater is the sun.
The 29th annual Chicago Latino Film Festival, organized by the International Latino Cultural Center, runs April 11-25 at the AMC Loews Theatres 600, 600 N. Michigan Ave. Today's screenings begin at 5:45pm; see the schedule for full details. Tickets to each film are $11.
Pumping Station: One, the Chicago hackerspace, presents an open house tonight starting at 6:00pm. The public is invited to come learn about the space, what the group does, and how you can join them. The event is free and open to the public. Pumping Station: One is located at 3519 N. Elston.
WBEZ presents "We Don't Need No Stinkin' Critics," a discussion of the role and status of criticism in the modern media landscape, at the Mayne Stage, 1328 W. Morse Ave., tonight. Jim DeRogatis hosts a panel that includes Fake Shore Drive's Andrew Barber, the Reader's Drew Hunt, Chicagoist's Jim "Tankboy" Kopeny, Bad at Sports' Duncan MacKenzie, WBEZ's Leah Pickett, Booklist's Donna Seaman, Time Out's Kris Vire and Gapers Block's own LaShawn Williams, plus an unnamed food critic. Doors open at 6pm, discussion starts at 7pm. Free, but $5 donation requested.
The Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph St., presents a screening of the cult classic film Altered States with live orchestra accompaniment tonight at 7pm, in honor of composer John Corigliano's 75th birthday. Corigliano will be present for a Q&A after the film. Tickets are $25-50. Doors open at 6pm.
The Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave., hosts a screening tonight of Tavi Gevinson and Jonah Ansell's animated short film Cadaver followed by a Q&A with Gevinson and Ansell. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are $10 for non-members, $8 for members and $6 for students.
Fictlicious is tonight at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., featuring stories and songs by Jenna Morgan, Summer Girlfriends, Megan Stielstra, Liam Davis, Scott Onak, Danny Black, Lara Levitan and Micki LeSueur. Doors open at 6pm, show's at 7pm. $10 at the door. 21+
