Manifest Urban Arts Festival

Columbia College holds its annual Manifest Urban Arts Festival today beginning at 8am. Literally dozens of events run all day long; see the schedule for full details. Most events are free, though some request a small donation.

Mayfest

Mayfest kicks off the summer street festival season this weekend at Ashland and Barry avenues this weekend, May 17-19. Enjoy beer, food and live music under a huge tent; tonight's entertainment includes a three-hour set by 16 Candles. Admission is $10. The fest is open from 5pm to 10pm tonight.

Sculptors Nancy Pirri and her mentor Robin Power are building the 'Wall of Small' at 4Art on May 17th for the Zhou B Center's monthly 3rd Friday event. all of these sculptures will be under 12 inches and there will be plenty to see.

Sign Painters @ Logan Theatre

The documentary film Sign Painters, by authors and directors Faythe Levine and Sam Macon, screens tonight at 7pm at the Logan Theater 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave. Levine and Macon will host a cocktail reception at 6pm before the screening, will introduce the film, and will do a Q&A afterward. City Lit Books will be on hand sell the accompanying book. Tickets are $12.

Wiggle Room @ Everleigh Social Club

Wiggle Room burlesque and standup comedy show ends its season at the Everleigh Social Club, 939 W. Randolph St., tonight at 10pm. See the award-winning Chicago Starlets and comedian Adam Burke, among other treats. Read our interview with creator Michelle L'amour in A/C. Tickets are $10-$15 in advance, $20-$25 at the door. Doors open at 9pm.

Mascot @ The Den Theatre

In Chris Bower's original comic tragedy, Mascot , actor Matt Test takes on the character of a man estranged from his family and meditating on ways to continue seeing his son. Through May 26 at the Den Theatre. Showtimes: Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3pm. Asian American Showcase @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents the 18th annual Asian American Showcase, starting tonight and running through May 30.
