Chicago Air & Water Show

The Chicago Air & Water Show will be driving pets crazy today and Sunday from 10am to 3pm. The show takes place along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach as the focal point. See a list of headliners here. Free.

When Life Hands You Lemons @ Kendall College

Toby Sonneman, author of Lemon: A Global History speaks about the fruit's origins and uses today at Kendall College (900 N. North Branch Street) from 10am-noon. Event sponsored by Culinary Historians of Chicago; free parking, admission $3-5.

Empty Bottle Garage Sale

Cooking Demo with bellyQ's Bill Kim

Join Chef Bill Kim at bellyQ, 1400 W. Randolph St., for his second live cooking demonstration and Korean barbecue-style picnic. The demonstration will incorporate step-by-step instructions from Kim with fun stories and anecdotes behind each dish along the way. After the demonstrations, guests can enjoy the dishes paired with Passion Fruit Margaritas on their patio. Included on the menu is a watermelon salad, Korean BBQ short rib and his signature kimchi. Tickets are $50; no walk-ups.

"Jim Kelly Day" @ Chatham 14 Theaters

Chatham 14 Theaters, 210 W. 87th St., presents "Jim Kelly Day," a tribute to the late martial arts movie star. Highlights of this family-friendly tribute include martial arts demonstrations and screenings of martial arts-themed films like The Karate Kid; South Side Warriors, Robert Wyrod's documentary on the black martial arts scene on Chicago's South Side; Black Belt Jones, and a screening and post-discussion on Enter the Dragon, which co-starred Kelly alongside Bruce Lee. St. Demetrios Greek Festival

St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church's annual Greek Fest runs this weekend, Aug. 16-18, in the church parking lot, 2727 W. Winona Ave. There's Greek music and dancing and a marketplace, but really this is a festival about food, and there's plenty of it. $2 donation at the door is requested; bring cash for the food and beverage tents. The fest is open from noon to midnight today.

Umphrey's McGee & STS9 @ FirstMerit Bank Pavilion

Two of the biggest acts in the jam band scene, Umphrey's McGee and STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9), play a duel show tonight at Northerly Island's FirstMerit Bank Pavilion (formerly known as Charter One Pavilion), 1300 S. Lynn White Dr. The two bands will alternate between their individual sets, as well as share the stage for a few songs. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. The SeXXX Files @ Uncharted Books

Uncharted Books, 2630 N. Milwaukee Ave., hosts the SeXXX Files, a reading of sexy stories featuring Sondra Morin, Elizabeth S. Tieri, Stephen Dvorak and Tyler Bagwell, tonight at 8pm. Free, BYOB.

Mooner, Daysleeper, Valo, Board of Governors @ Lincoln Hall

Local power-poppers Mooner headline Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave., this Saturday to promote their new single, "Making Americans". The band will be handing out download cards of the single at the show. Daysleeper, Valo and Board of Governors open. Tix are $8, show starts at 9:30pm.

Gogol Bordello @ Concord Music Hall

Theatrical gypsy punk band, Gogol Bordello, christens the stage of Chicago's newest music venue, Concord Music Hall, 2047 N. Milwaukee Ave., tonight at its official launch event. Tickets are $42.50. Doors open at 10pm. All ages.

Digital Tape Machine @ House of Blues

Chicago's own instrumental electronic group Digital Tape Machine takes the stage at the House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn St., tonight as the official after party of the Umphrey's McGee/STS9 show at Northerly Island. STS9 bassist David Murphy will sit in as a special guest. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door. Doors open at 11pm, show starts at 11:30pm. 17+
