WORD Chicago: Women's Equality Day Speak Out and March

Join WORD (Women Organized to Resist and Defend) Chicago at Federal Plaza (50 W. Adams St.) for a speak out and march to defend women's rights and promote women's equality. This action takes place in solidarity with the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, a historic turning point in the struggle for civil rights. Speak out begins at 5pm. March at 6pm. The Boulevard Festival & Brasil Fest

The Boulevard Logan Square music festival and the Brasil Fest run simultaneously Aug. 23-25 on the Logan Boulevard parkway between Albany and Mozart. Tonight's lineup for Boulevard Fest features Gentleman Hall, Dugas and The Whigs, while Brasil Fest features Paulinho Garcia Quintet, DJ Mwelwa Musambacine and Swing Brasileiro. Both run from 5pm to 10pm tonight. Suggested donation $5.

Festa Italiana

Festa Italiana takes over Taylor Street from Racine to Ashland Aug. 22-25. Enjoy live music by (mostly) Italian-American acts, shop local vendors, enjoy Italian food -- maybe even participate in a meatball-eating contest or grape stomp -- play bocce and more. The festival is open from 5 to 11pm tonight.

Noir City 5 @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre and the Film Noir Foundation present their fifth annual Noir City: Chicago festival, starting this evening at 6:00pm. For the next week the schedule will include noir classics and rarely-seen films, from Sunset Boulevard to the rarely-seen Edward G. Robinson film Night Has A Thousand Eyes. Best Served Hot: Ceramics for the Coffee Ritual

Lillstreet Art Center, 4401 N. Ravenswood Ave., kicks off its celebration of 10 years at its Ravenswood location this weekend with an opening reception for "Best Served Hot: Ceramics for the Coffee Ritual," its sixth annual juried ceramics exhibition, tonight from 6 to 8pm. On display will be artist-made mugs, brewing vessels, carafes, and cream and sugar sets that celebrate the coffee ritual; Intelligentsia will serve coffee, DJ Bylamplight spins, and Eye Spy Optical runs a pop-up shop. A Jangleheart Circus @ Den Theatre

Upstairs Gallery presents A Jangleheart Circus, a three-day comedy festival Aug. 22-24 at the Den Theatre, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave. The lineup features several dozen sketch and improv comedy troupes from Chicago and beyond. Performances run from 7pm to 1am each day. Tickets are $20 per day or $50 for a three-day pass.

Athanor @ Hideout

Secret History of Chicago Music and Roctober present the first-ever live performance by Athanor, an obscure band from the 1970s, at the Hideout tonight, along with Mr. Lee and the Rearrangers Band, T. Valentine, and stand-up comedy by James Wesley Jackson. Doors open at 9pm, show's at 10pm. Tickets are $8 online or at the door. 21+

Trapped in the Closet @ Music Box
