After the Fires: A 9/11 Musical Tribute @ Harold Washington Library

The Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St., presents "After the Fires: A 9/11 Musical Tribute," tonight at 6pm. In conjunction with Chicago's Congo Square Theatre, this free performance, held in the library's Pritzker Auditorium and created by actor and songwriter Anthony Irons, will pay tribute to the "stories of characters affected by 9/11" through R&B and new age musical theater. A Month Of Storytelling Open Mic

A Month Of is a new monthly, open-mic storytelling series where the audience selects the event's theme online before the show starts. Open mic slots are 5-7 minutes long, all story types and forms are welcome. The show is every 2nd Wednesday at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave., and runs from 7:30 to 10pm. Tickets are $10 for audience members, free for storytellers (or with a food donation). Help select a topic by visiting heresthestory.org.

Days of Heaven @ Patio Theater

The Northwest Chicago Film Society presents a screening of Tarrence Malick's Days of Heaven, starring Richard Gere, Brooke Adams and Sam Shepard, tonight at 7:30pm at the Patio Theater, 6008 W. Irving Park Rd. Tickets are $5.

Solo in the 2nd City: Featuring Curbside Splendor Publishing @ Beauty Bar

The Solo in the 2nd City Reading Series starts on its new night, the 2nd Wednesday of the month, tonight at 8pm at Beauty Bar, 1444 W. Chicago Ave. A handful of writers, comedians, and authors tell their stories on being single, dating, and sex in Chicago. This month will feature authors from Curbside Splendor Publishing. Authors and readers include Samantha Irby, Meaty, Chris Terry, Zero Fade, Megan Stielstra, Once I Was Cool , Jacob Knabb, Senior Editor at Curbside, and James Tadd Adcox, Editor and Writer, Artifice. Some titles will be available for purchase. Hosts are Carly Oishi and Melinda McIntire. Event is free and 21+.
