Lecture on Architect Barry Byrne at Unity Temple

Vincent Michael, author of The Architecture of Barry Byrne: Taking the Prairie School to Europe, will speak at 6pm tonight at Unity Temple's Unity House, 875 Lake St. in Oak Park, on the influential Prairie School architect. Michael is executive director of the Global Heritage Fund in Palo Alto and director of the Historic Preservation program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Tonight's event, sponsored by the Society of Architectural Historians, includes a reception and exhibit of photos taken for the book by Felicity Rich, Byrne's granddaughter (and Michael's wife). Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. Tickets are $10 for SAH members and $15 for non-members. TIF 101 @ The CivicLab

There's been a lot of recent talk about Tax Increment Financing (TIF) in Chicago, but how much do you really know about TIF's? Tom Tresser, co-founder of the CivicLab and organizer of the TIF Illumination Project, will break it down for you at this engaging and informative workshop. Event runs from 7-8:30pm, at The CivicLab (114 North Aberdeen Street). Tickets are $10.
