Celebrate the city's food truck scene at the Chicago Food Truck Rally today from 11am to 8pm in Daley Plaza. Eight trucks, including Beavers Coffee & Donuts, Chicago Lunchbox and Jerk 312, will be on hand.
Little Man Pee Pool Party: The Whiz Paddler's Lament, an exhibition curated by Raúl Nude, features 26 interpretations of Mannekin Pis, the famous "peeing boy" public fountain in Brussels. The show opens with a reception tonight from 6 to 10pm at antena, 1755 S. Laflin St. The show runs through Nov. 2.
The 11th annual Andersonville Arts Weekend runs Oct. 11-13 throughout the neighborhood, beginning with the "Night of 100 Parties" tonight at stores on or near Clark Street from Winnemac to Hollywood. See the full schedule for details. Free.
Recess, a group exhibition that uses images associated with youth and play, opens with a reception this evening from 6 to 9pm at the South Side Community Art Center, 3831 S. Michigan Ave. Curated by Tempestt Hazel, the show features works by Caitlin Cherry, Krista Franklin, James T. Green, David Leggett, Christina A. Long, Cecil McDonald Jr. and avery r. young, paired with works from the Center's collection by Archibald Motley Jr., Al Price, Charles Davis, Rosalie Davis, Jon Jones, William McBride, Eric W. Anderson, Maurice Benson and Ben Bey. The show runs through Nov. 9.
Fulton Street Collective's artist curators Kyle Fletcher and Steve Juras collaborated to bring "Everything is Practice" into being. Visit the Collective (2000 W. Fulton Street) at 7 PM this Friday (10/11) or Saturday (10/12) for the opening of the exhibit, which explores the repetitive motions and gestures that produce works of art. The exhibit features performances by the Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble.
The Art of Human Rights at The Palette & Chisel, 1012 N. Dearborn, will become "Midnight in Paris," a themed party. Be taken back to the 17th century in Paris Salons where artists held their literary gatherings. 7pm to 10pm tonight. Tickets start at $125.
Signs of Life, a musical drama based on the true story of the Czech ghetto, Terezin, has come to Chicago for a limited run at Victory Gardens Theater (2433 N. Lincoln.) Universally acclaimed by the Sun-Times, Reader and the New York Times, Signs of Life runs through October 27 with performances on Wednesdays at 2pm and 7:30pm, Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 5pm and 8:30pm, and Sundays at 3pm. The O'Mys make soul music that make me feel like I'm in my stylish Newport smoking uncle's Cadillac driving home from church on a Sunday afternoon in the south side of the city.
